Delcam Establishes Professional Services Group in Singapore

Delcam has established a new division of its Professional Services Group in Singapore, following the Group’s successes in the UK and Europe. Even though Delcam’s software has been sold throughout Asia for more than twenty years, the Singapore site will be the first office in the region for the Professional Services Group. Like the existing team, the new office will provide process development and prototyping services based on Delcam’s range of CADCAM software. A similar focus on helping companies with the manufacture and repair of aerospace components will be the main priority, although the Singapore team will also provide its services to other industries.

Most of the projects undertaken by the Professional Services Group involve the development of turn-key work cells using Delcam’s adaptive machining technology. Adaptive machining uses a combination of machining and inspection technology to allow the production of complex components to a consistently high level of accuracy and quality. Typically, the systems involve a high level of automation, allowing them to be operated by lower-skilled staff. It is expected that the new group in Singapore will also focus mainly on adaptive machining projects.

The Singapore office will be run by Hans Kunen, who has worked in the Professional Services Group for the past eighteen months. Prior to joining Delcam, Mr. Kunen had gained more than twenty years’ experience in marketing, product development and project management with a variety of machine tool and cutting tool companies. After graduating in mechanical engineering, Mr. Kunen started his career with machine-tool builder Unisign, where he supported customers across Europe, Asia and North America. In 1994, he moved into the cutting tool business, initially with Jabro Tools, again in Europe, Asia and North America, and subsequently with Oude Reimer and Robbjack. With all three companies, Mr. Kunen was responsible for both the technical and commercial development of the European market.

“The Professional Services Group has been especially successful in winning projects from the aerospace industry in the UK and Europe, both from engine manufacturers and from companies that machine aerostructures, and we are looking to repeat that success across Asia,” commented Professional Services Manager Paul Wilkinson. “Hans Kunen has both the technical and commercial skills needed to support our customers in their drive to improve their productivity and profitability. Equally important is that he has experience in helping all types of organisations, from small-and medium-sized companies up to multinationals like Boeing and Airbus.”

The Professional Services Group was formed by Delcam in 2004 to undertake larger consultancy projects for users of the company’s CADCAM software. The primary business of the group is on working with clients to improve their design and manufacturing processes, and then defining procedures for using Delcam’s products to implement those processes.
