Planisware Experiences Record Growth in 2008

Planisware™, a leading global provider of corporate portfolio management solutions for companies across myriad industries – such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology, energy, aerospace and defense, automotive, and high-tech – closed out 2008 with significant growth worldwide. The company reported worldwide earnings of more than $30 million in revenue, as well as an exceptional 39% overall growth in its U.S. market. This success is expected to continue in 2009, due to a solid sales pipeline, as well as campaigns and conferences designed to increase product awareness and adoption.

In 2008, Planisware software license sales worldwide were up 10% from 2007 – doubling in the U.S. – and the company signed several large new customers, including Alcon, Airbus, AstraZeneca, Solvay Pharmaceuticals, GlaxoSmithKline, Hexion, McKesson, Renault/Nissan and Syngenta, all of which contributed largely to Planisware’s growth and continued profitability. Maintaining a 99% customer retention rate, the company is one of the market leaders in the new product development sector and holds a leading position in the pharmaceutical space, as well as has a prominent presence in automotive, aerospace, medical device, energy and the IT markets. Further, Innovation Framework Technologies – a company created by two former Artemis employees that markets and sells Planisware solutions – successfully sold its first Planisware software licenses in the U.S. Combined, sales by Innovation Framework Technologies and Planisware USA resulted in a 39% increase in Planisware solution sales in North America.

In addition to financial growth, Planisware – which underwent a rebranding in 2008 – launched Planisware 5, the latest version of its corporate portfolio management software, in February, and earned its new product the “Stage-Gate Ready©” certification. A Web-based tool, Planisware 5 features several new functionalities, including a new deliverables management system that enables the real world management of complex relationships between interdependent technologies and projects. The solution also includes the ability to define strategic buckets, complex sales and financial forecasting tools, a powerful simulation engine, idea and innovation scoring, and integrated PACE© and Stage-Gate© methodologies. Throughout the year, the company continued to focus on enhancing Planisware 5 – the solution achieved certified integration with SAP® Applications in October to further solidify the company’s relationship with SAP and the company launched an ideation campaign in November, inviting 15,000 partners, employees and customers to provide feedback and ideas for future improvements on Planisware 5.

Planisware also found success in working with innovation consulting leaders – such as Kalypso, Accenture, IBM and PriceWaterhouseCoopers – as well as received recognition as an industry leader from several top analyst firms, expanded its total workforce and hosted two user conferences.

“As the economy has grown increasingly uncertain over the past year, several companies have experienced a plateau in revenue or have grown generally unstable,” said Pierre Demonsant, CEO and founder of Planisware. “The fact that Planisware has experienced a 39% growth in the U.S. – despite a challenging environment – is a strong testament to the value of our solutions and the company’s commitment to delivering superior products. Our customers recognize that our solutions empower them to get through today’s economic hardships with tools that streamline processes, help to better manage innovation, resources and budgets, and more efficiently evaluate the viability of several different projects. We will continue this mission throughout 2009.”

Planisware expects to continue its success worldwide in 2009, through its existing sales pipeline, as well as several endeavors that will secure new business opportunities for the company. The company has already gotten off to an excellent start this year, as returning customer Johnson & Johnson recently adopted Planisware 5 as its standard solution for R&D. Further, the company plans to continue expanding its workforce and develop a distribution network. Additionally, Planisware intends to incorporate the feedback and ideas generated from the ideation campaign to ensure that the company’s solutions continue to align with industry needs, making necessary adjustments and changes.

Planisware hosted its global user conference – an opportunity for Planisware’s customers to meet with technical staff and network with each other to learn ways to better manage their innovation through the company’s solutions – this month in Paris. Planisware will also host three more user conferences this year: a U.S. user conference in May and two new product development user conferences in Europe this spring and fall.
