Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co. Maintains Spent Nuclear Fuel Facilities with IFS Applications

The Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co. (SKB) will implement IFS Applications to maintain its facilities. The principal supplier is Logica, with IFS providing certain services and the maintenance software for the project.

SKB is responsible for managing the spent nuclear fuel produced by Swedish nuclear power stations. The company today operates an interim storage plant, Clab, in Oskarshamn, Sweden. An encapsulation plant is being planned in Oskarshamn. In 2009, SKB will select either Oskarshamn or Forsmark, Sweden, as the location for the final repository for spent nuclear waste.

The demands on safety, quality management, risk management, technological development, and documentation are very exacting, and as SKB is now approaching the industrial phase of building and operating major facilities, the demands on IT support also increase. SKB will implement IFS Applications components for maintenance, purchasing, inventory, and document management.

In 2007, IFS and Logica entered into closer collaboration to jointly penetrate selected industries in order to increase sales of Logica’s consulting services and IFS Applications components for manufacturing, after sales service, and maintenance. Currently, the companies collaborate on ERP implementations and operation at Saab, SSAB, Tomra, Munters, Iggesund, Scania, REC, among others.

”The agreement with SKB further strengthens our partnership with Logica,” said Glenn Arnesen, managing director of IFS Scandinavia. “Our collaboration gives our customers greater freedom and access to complementary sets of competence, and we benefit from Logica’s strong position in the Nordic Region. Logica has driven the sales process in this deal.”

IFS prioritizes the energy and utilities industry and has more than 140 customers involved in power generation, transmission and distribution as well as water and sewage. These include the world's largest hydropower plant, Three Gorges (P. R. China), nuclear power plants OKG (Sweden), PBMR (South Africa) and Qinshan (P. R. China), grid operators such as Svenska Kraftnät (Sweden), Statnett (Norway) and TenneT (The Netherlands) as well as distributors such as Vattenfall (Sweden) and Hafslund (Norway). Reliable and safe asset management and workforce management are critical processes in the energy and utility industry, to which IFS has provided solutions for more than 20 years.

(SKB), which is tasked with managing and disposing of radioactive waste from Swedish nuclear power stations in compliance with the highest standards for human and environmental safety.
