Description: Learn how successful aerospace firms are automating their composite manufacturing processes so they can meet demanding delivery schedules.

Date: February 26, 2009

Time: 11 AM EST

Location: online

Details:

As aerospace companies transition to using carbon fiber for large components on commercial aircraft, order backlogs are rapidly growing . Enabling the automation of composites manufacturing is critical to the success of these organizations.

This represents a fundamental change in the industry because until recently, composite design software was almost exclusively dedicated to manual layup. However, the need to develop bigger parts faster has now put a premium on implementing automated processes, such as fiber placement and tape laying. Leveraging these processes is critical because they provide greater deposition speed and accuracy, enabling manufacturers to keep up with demanding delivery deadlines.

VISTAGY has been working closely with the providers of automated manufacturing software and equipment to devise the most efficient product development processes. Join Casey Kralik from Alliant Techsystems and Olivier Guillermin of VISTAGY to learn about new design approaches and best practices in this evolving manufacturing area.

  • How new design methodologies are being used to design large aerostructures, such as fuselage panels and wing skins
  • Which new design tools are available to complete a detailed and optimized part design for the automated manufacturing process, before the design is released to manufacturing
  • How to minimize the need for performing non-value added tasks to create a detailed design for automated deposition
  • How to plan for, accommodate and track engineering changes in order to remain in control of the design and deliver it on-time and on-budget
  • How to standardize the engineering process in a multiple machine environment
  • Where the composites engineering and manufacturing process is headed in response to the aerospace industry's demand for greater design and manufacturing integration, increased standardization and additional flexibility
