Spanish Engineering Students Get the Professional Tools They Deserve: SolidWorks
The Escola Universitària Salesiana de Sarrià (EUSS) of Barcelona has standardized on SolidWorks® CAD software. Rather than maintaining six different CAD products in classrooms to cover the needs of students in mechanical, electrical, and electronics engineering, the university now has 500 licenses of SolidWorks software. That’s one for every engineering student and faculty member to take home, and one for every computer lab desktop.
“We’re empowering every student and saving a lot of time and money,” says Dra. Marta Mata Burgarolas, head of the EUSS mechanical engineering department. “And we now have much more time to teach engineering principles rather than software use. We have one powerful, intuitive CAD product with all of the features that any success-minded engineering student needs, including drawings, mechanical CAD, data management, and simulation, both mechanical and fluid. This covers every student in every discipline, at home and in the classroom. By eliminating five separate software packages, we spend less money and time on installation work, updates, training, and retraining.”
Standardizing on SolidWorks gives every student a full personal license of SolidWorks with all the functionality millions of professional engineers possess. In fact, many of the businesses EUSS students work with in outreach projects or internships are SolidWorks users. These include robotics maker Mecalux, the engineering consulting firm MIRA Tecnologia, the fiberglass manufacturer PROTESA, and Spain’s national auto manufacturer, SEAT, S.A.
“With everyone using SolidWorks full time and learning simulation as part of the design process, our students are better prepared than ever to successfully transition to the professional world,” says Mata. “And the chances are good they’ll continue using SolidWorks.”
