STAR-CCM+ V5 Delivers Truly Parametric Engineering Simulation

CD-adapco announced the release STAR-CCM+ V5.

Since its first release, STAR-CCM+ has evolved into an integrated platform for multi-disciplinary engineering simulation, including: combustion; multiphase flow; heat transfer through solids and fluids; dynamic fluid body interaction; solid stress; and fully implicit fluid structure interaction: all from within a single environment.

STAR-CCM+ provides a complete simulation workflow – from the creation of geometry to the analysis of simulation data output – all inside a single application:

“STAR-CCM+ V5 introduces 3D-CAD, a fully parametric geometry modeling capability. Designed by and for simulation engineers, 3D-CAD provides modeling capabilities that bridge the gap between CAD and CAE," says Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, CD-adapco’s VP Product Management."What we are talking about is nothing less than a paradigm shift: in three decades of commercial engineering simulation, practitioners have always had to worry about communication between the different tools that make up their simulation process. Not anymore. STAR-CCM+ V5 provides the complete simulation workflow in a single powerful application.”

The payoff is immense. Using STAR-CCM+ V5 engineers and designers have the opportunity to modify their designs in response to engineering simulation data, either manually, or in a completely automated manner, allowing them to explore the entire design space rather than just a few design points.

As an integral part of STAR-CCM+, the 3D-CAD functionality is completely client/server based, delivering numerous advantages including full scripting and workflow automation:

As with every new release, STAR-CCM+ includes a comprehensive range of new features including, but not limited to:

•Conformal thin meshing: this technology designed to generate prismatic polyhedral for thin objects is now conformal across multiple regions and allows more efficient studies of sheet metals and other high aspect ratio geometries surrounded by fluid.

•Specular reflectivity: STAR-CCM+ already delivers one of the most complete radiation feature sets and this is further extended to handle directional reflectivity for the simulation of solar collectors, headlamps and highly polished heat shields.

•Primary atomization and secondary breakup: extended capabilities to include primary atomization and secondary breakup to add flexibility and accuracy to spray modeling.

STAR-CCM+ V5 will be officially launched at the STAR European Conference on March 22nd, 2010. CD-adapco invites all attendees to attend a complimentary day of STAR-CCM+ v5 Orientation Training on March 24 2010, worth €600, which will allow you to deploy the lessons learned during the conference into your engineering process.
