PTC® to Support the Arkwright Scholarships

PTC has announced their support of the Arkwright Scholarships by providing all Arkwright Scholars with free access to Pro/ENGINEER®, PTC’s industry standard 3D design software, for the duration of their education.

The Arkwright Scholarship was founded in 1991 when a group of committed head teachers believed that Design & Technology was not being given the profile the subject deserved. The aim of the scholarship program is to encourage and stimulate high ability 15/16 year old students to take up engineering or technological careers by awarding scholarships during sixth form study of ‘A’ Levels, International Baccalaureate, National Diploma or Scottish Highers / Advanced Highers.

“The future prosperity of this country is dependent upon encouraging young people to consider a career in the field of design and engineering, which will ultimately lead to the much needed next generation of young engineers,” commented Linda Scott OBE, chief executive from the Arkwright Trust. “We believe that providing students with Pro/ENGINEER Schools Edition gives them access to the top industry standard design solution, and thus a stronger pathway into engineering careers.”

Pro/ENGINEER Schools Edition was developed specifically for secondary education to introduce students to design technology and to help them become better problem solvers, critical thinkers and collaborators. PTC’s investment of software and training provides a no-cost way for teachers to bring the industry’s leading 3D design software into the classroom. With a breadth of functionality, Pro/ENGINEER Schools Edition incorporates everything that a student would need to prepare for a career as a professional designer or engineer.

With its capabilities in solid modelling, assembly modelling and drafting, Pro/ENGINEER enables students to build, analyse and test complex 3D models, assemblies and 2D measured drawings. Today, more than 133,500 users worldwide are designing great products with Pro/ENGINEER.

“PTC is committed to providing its customers with the next generation of quality engineers,” said Alister Fraser, PTC education program manager Northern Europe. “Working in association with Arkwright will allow us to reach young people at an important stage in their educations to provide the fundamental skills needed for a career as a designer or engineer.”
