Secure Electronic Medical Records Come to the iPhone and iPad, Courtesy of Dassault Systemes and echoBase Partnership

Dassault Systèmes (DS) announced a partnership with application developer echoBase, Inc, marking DS’s entry into the electronic medical records market. echoBase’s Resonate iPhone application for doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and other healthcare providers will leverage Dassault Systèmes’ ENOVIA V6 online collaboration and data management solution to deliver portability, availability and security of healthcare data. This approach will help ensure a consistent patient experience, no matter which doctor or provider they are scheduled to see.

As hospital back office information systems continue to evolve and improve, ENOVIA, coupled with Resonate, gives healthcare providers a single, secure user interface to patient records distributed across multiple IT systems, including: practice management and revenue cycle management solutions, patient tracking and resource scheduling databases and numerous other systems widely used in the healthcare industry. By leveraging ENOVIA as the integration and communication gateway to the evolving Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN), healthcare providers will be able to manage future upgrades to back office infrastructure while also securely accessing patient information through an intuitive iPhone application that can be downloaded on the App Store.

“The adoption of the iPhone and other mobile devices in the healthcare industry is just the latest example of how technology is creating greater transparency and an improved experience for consumers when dealing with service providers of all kinds. As a result, we see this as a natural use of ENOVIA V6’s data management and federation capabilities,” said Michel Tellier, CEO, ENOVIA, Dassault Systèmes. “Based on its experience in industries like aerospace and defense, ENOVIA has a strong track record of developing solutions that provide portability, security, and availability for classified data in Department of Defense programs. Dassault Systèmes and echoBase’s Resonate are now leveraging these same IP security and online collaboration strengths to address the need for greater portability while maintaining security regarding electronic healthcare data management.”

echoBase’s Resonate application improves both the patient experience and patient safety by providing physicians with immediate access to the patient’s chart and offering a flexible and intuitive interface for generating encounter documentation. This mobile iPhone application significantly reduces the 30-50 percent of the doctor’s time spent entering data, freeing him/her up to address more important patient needs.

“We are leveraging the same data federation and security capabilities that the aerospace and defense industry has been using on Department of Defense programs for decades,” said Brent J Miller, CEO and co-founder, echoBase. “Partnering with the leader in product data management brings mobility, confidentiality and connectivity to what I like to call ‘Patient Data Management.’”

echoBase already has plans for the newly introduced Apple iPad. Because of the larger display and the longer lasting battery, the iPad will act as a companion device to the iPhone for clinicians, enabling a richer user interface and various other features for clinicians. The device’s built-in microphone and speaker allow notes to be dictated just as they are with the iPhone app, and a wireless keyboard in the exam room can be paired with the iPad to speed up typing if the doctor wishes to enter notes manually.

echoBase and Dassault Systèmes are actively engaged with several large medical research hospitals and universities, as well as being operative members of the North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance (NCHICA), focused on secure, portable electronic healthcare data management within the NHIN.
