Bentley Names Gus Bergsma as Vice President of New Sales Organization Serving Small and Medium Enterprises Worldwide

Bentley Systems, Incorporated announced that it has appointed Gus Bergsma as vice president of Bentley’s newly formed regional sales organization (RSO) comprising inside sales, sales engineers, and Bentley Channel Partners serving small and medium enterprises (SMEs) worldwide. The RSO is a critical component in meeting the demands of Bentley’s continued regional expansion and growth opportunities. It complements Bentley’s field sales organization that serves large national and international accounts, including 87 percent of the ENR Top 500 Design Firms.

Bergsma, who previously was VP of Bentley’s water and structural products sales organizations, is responsible in his new role for bringing together all of the teams that make up the RSO. In addition, he will lead the expansion of Bentley’s Channel Partner Program to include specialty-product partners in both mature and developing markets.

“Gus’ long and successful career in developing and marketing structural engineering software makes him the ideal candidate for this position,” said Bentley COO Malcolm Walter. “The enormous impact he has had on our sales efforts since joining Bentley proves his ability to move our new regional sales organization forward. His appointment will better unify the teams that make up the RSO and enhance their ability to serve our community of SME users.”

Walter continued, “As a former practicing engineer, Gus understands how innovative software products can increase efficiencies and reduce costs. This enables him to identify new business opportunities for the company while helping it implement effective sales strategies. At the same time, his in-depth technical knowledge makes him the right person to help our new regional sales organization guide SMEs in the selection and deployment of solutions and products for sustaining infrastructure that are ideally suited for their particular project requirements.”

Commenting on his new position, Bergsma said, “I look forward to this great opportunity to define and grow our new RSO. By unifying this highly talented team and expanding our channel partner program globally with a more focused effort, we will be able to more effectively serve a community of users that is key to Bentley’s future growth. In addition, our new RSO structure will help us better mainstream new acquisitions and products into our operations, enabling users to more quickly take advantage of, and benefit from, our latest technology offerings.”

Bergsma began his professional career as a project structural engineer with Culp & Tanner, Inc., in Southern California. He joined Bentley as a vice president in 2005 following Bentley’s acquisition of RAM International, the structural engineering software company in which Bergsma was a partner and served as vice president. In 2008, Bergsma received the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Special Achievement Award for his pioneering work with Bentley’s RAM Structural System.

Bergsma holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. A licensed professional, he is a member of the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers – Civil Engineering. Bergsma lives in Escondido, Calif.
