Product Design + Innovation: New London Conference Warmly Welcomed by Industrial Design Community

PDD, Lucid Group and Cambridge Design Partnership are among the growing number of design consultancies sending delegates to the Product Design + Innovation Conference in London this May 18-19. The two-day event, supported by British Design Innovation and the Institution of Engineering Designers, has also captured the interest of brands such as Sony, Pegler, Hasbro and Novo Nordisk who have already booked places for their in-house design teams. Meanwhile organisers have announced sponsorship deals with four global companies providing key services to product designers: Objet, Dupont, IP Research and solidThinking.

Attracted by the high profile speaker line up which features innovation leaders at Unilever, Electrolux, Seymourpowell, Cisco IBSG, Tangerine and British Airways, the positive industry response has demonstrated there is a real need for this unique learning and networking event.

Eric Bredin, Objet's marketing manager Europe, comments: “Good design is about so much more than aesthetics. It’s critical for today’s product designers to gain a swift return on investment through effective design – which can be the result of good use of technology, materials, process and strategy. The organisers of Product Design + Innovation have put together an excellent conference programme with an impressive array of speakers. It’s a great forum to gain insight, or remind yourself of best practice from some real success stories.”

DuPont will be sharing its knowledge of polymer-based solutions that can resolve the paradox in design – how materials available today can meet the combination of needs of strength, beauty and sustainability. Veronique Ruppert-Schmitt, DuPont’s European marketing communications manager said, “Product Design + Innovation reflects our desire to engage more proactively with designers, engineers and specifiers. They are our genuine partners for innovation, with whom we can develop tomorrow's solutions in plastics and bioplastics for consumer, industrial and automotive products."

Nicos Raftis, director of IP Research (IPR)believes that the real needs of industrial designers have not been properly addressed at a UK event until now: “Other conferences on innovation or product development frequently end up being a mosaic of very different issues. Designers care about how they can create new concepts, how they can find inspiration, how they can leverage and build on previous ideas, and what enabling technologies to adopt. They need to know how things have been evolving, and what opportunities are there for new creation. For IPR this is a perfect match because as a company we are focused on serving the needs of the design community as opposed to the needs of patent attorneys.”

solidThinking, which develops 3D design software, has also signed up as a sponsor for the event. Vice president of product strategy & marketing, Alessandro Mazzardo, said: "At last I have found an event which is truly targeted at the industrial design community. High profile and well respected speakers make this a great learning and networking opportunity, enabling us to showcase our latest technology advancements to the right audience. I hope there will be more events like this in other countries."

Product Design + Innovation takes place on 18 and 19 May at ExCel London. For the full programme and booking information, see the official website http://www.pdesigni.comwhich includes product design news and blogs as well as speaker biographies.
