One of Brazil’s Largest Clothing Manufacturers Relies on Gerber Equipment to Support Aggressive Growth Strategy

Gerber Technology announced that one of Brazil’s largest and most recognized apparel companies, Cia. Hering, has chosen Gerber to expand its facilities in the state of Santa Catarina and equip its newest factories in the states of Goias and Rio Grande do Norte with design and manufacturing solutions valued at $1.4 million.

Gerber Technology will supply multiple AccuMark® pattern design, grading and marker making software systems, automated spreading systems equipped with InfoMark™ labeling devices and GERBERcutter® Z7 cutting systems.

Last year, Cia. Hering posted net revenues of $1.013 billion Real (U.S. $646 million), up 40 percent over the prior year. The 130-year-old company markets products under the Hering, PUC, dzarm. and Hering Kids names selling jeans, blouses, knit shirts and childrenswear through a chain of 347 Hering and 78 PUC brand stores and nearly 16,000 multi-brand retail stores. Cia. Hering has manufacturing operations in the states of Santa Catarina, Goias and Rio Grande do Norte and employs 7,900 individuals.

Edgar de Oliveira Filho, industrial director for Cia. Hering, said, “We employ a ‘fast fashion’ model which involves designing collections in-house to reduce the product development cycle. To achieve this, our design and development software systems must be easy to learn and easy to use, our manufacturing systems must be highly reliable and, when we need support, it must be timely. Gerber delivers on all three counts and provides strong local profile through Galileu Tecnologia, its representative in Blumenau.”

Henrique Ferreira, managing director of Galileu Tecnologia, said, “Galileu Tecnologia is very proud to be of service to Cia. Hering and appreciates their decision to expand the use of Gerber products in their three factories in Brazil.”

Joseph Finelli, regional director of Latin America for Gerber, said, “Hering creates many collections throughout the year delivering them at two- to three-week intervals. They rely on Gerber to keep them operational for three shifts a day to enable them to meet their customers’ demands for new products. We are proud to have served their needs for nearly three decades and look forward to working with them to realize their future growth strategy.”

According to a survey conducted by global market research firm Synovate, Hering is one of the most well-known apparel brand names in Brazil, recognized by 94 percent of upper- and upper-middle-income class respondents and by 85 percent of middle- and lower-middle-income class respondents in the survey.
