Tata Technologies BETTER INNOVATION at PLM Innovation Congress 2011
Tata Technologies announced that its “BETTER INNOVATION on Tour” presentation focusing upon its contributions to the development of the Tata Nano, the world’s most affordable car, will be presented at PLM Innovation Congress 2011, 19-20 January, in London. Mr. Nick Sale, Tata Technologies COO - Europe, will deliver the presentation in a session titled “Automotive Innovation – The Tata Nano” to lead off day two of the event at 9.00. The BETTER INNOVATION Nano will be on display during and following the presentation.
Using the Tata Nano, and the contributions that Tata Technologies made to put the vehicle into production and bring it to market, Mr. Sale will discuss the principles of frugal engineering, the innovative application of PLM technology to enhance time-to-market while reducing development costs, and the importance of combining these elements to deliver this industry-changing automobile.
Tata Technologies played a key role in engineering the Nano, which is produced by Tata Motors in India, for the Indian market. The company is using the car to highlight its full-vehicle engineering and design capabilities to clients, and to discuss the challenges that were overcome in bringing the world’s most affordable car to market.
“The innovative thinking that brought the Tata Nano to market is symbolic of what Tata Technologies has to offer the manufacturing industry,” said Sale. “Tata Technologies was front-and-center in engineering and developing the Nano; working closely with Tata Motors and with a significant number of the Nano project suppliers.”
Tata Technologies contributed to 28 of the 59 patent applications filed on the Nano project, according to Sale, “Our work on the Nano is part of a sweeping wave of change within the automotive industry and within manufacturing overall – the use of truly global engineering resources that utilize innovative CAD processes and PLM tools.”
BETTER INNOVATION on Tour kicked off in the U.S., in January 2010, with a special debut event in Detroit during last year’s North American International Auto Show. Between January-November 2010, the presentation traveled throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe with its message of the importance of vision, innovation and frugal engineering principles. This is the first presentation of BETTER INNOVATION in 2011.
PLM Innovation Congress 2011 takes place 19-20 January in London. It is the only independent PLM event in Europe, bringing together the world’s leading directors of engineering and process improvement, design engineers, PDM experts, IT directors, and other industry thought leaders.
