CONTACT Software Italia Wins Betamotor as New Customer

CONTACT Software Italia has won one of Italy's renowned motorbike manufacturers as new customer. Betamotor S.p.A, based in Rignano sull'Arno near Florence, is known around the world for its off-road vehicles marketed under the BETA brand. More than 70% of annual production is exported abroad; the brand has become something of a synonym in the trial sector. The company decided to combine its changeover from Pro/Engineer Wildfire to PTC's Creo with a long-term improvement of its product development process (PDP). In order to better support this process, the existing team data management system is to be replaced by CONTACT's workspaces technology and the PDM/PLM platform CIM DATABASE.

Betamotor will implement CIM DATABASE as the leading system for process management, making valid and secure CAD data, product documents and parts lists available throughout the company. The CONTACT workspaces will enable the motorbike manufacturer's development team to work together in an autonomous, synchronised and more efficient manner. The major benefit to the design engineers is that they can run through various product options in their CAD system during the early PDP stages, with no unnecessary administrative overhead. At the same time, data management is made considerably easier thanks to the Workspace Manager's extensive support functions for reconciling data with the central PDM/PLM backbone. "Developers are the guarantors of a company's innovative potential," says Dr. Silvio Giancaspro from CONTACT Software Italia. "And Betamotor sees us as the best partner to support their engineers' needs."

Betamotor has been closely linked to the development of the motorcycle throughout its history. Founded in 1904 as an artisanal bicycle producer under the name "Società Giuseppe Bianchi", the company developed into a genuine motorbike manufacturer during the 40s, as the world became increasingly motorised. The BETA brand, from the initials of the two partners Enzo Bianchi and Arrigo Tosi, was used to market the motorbikes from then on. This specialisation has led to a consistent dedication to competitive events, the ideal testing facility for developing Beta bikes: first of all in motocross and enduro, followed later by the trials sector, as well.
