Patent Issued to Imaginestics for Electronic Commercial Showplace of Digital Content To Find Vendors
Imaginestics announced that it has been issued patent No. 8,145,545 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a method of providing an electronic commercial showplace, where image data (images, 2D drawing and 3D models) associated with component parts are stored, enabling purchasers to search using visual input (sketch, image, 2D drawing and 3D models) to find vendors or suppliers.
This patent is a building block for Imaginestics’ VizSpace platform, an online social supply chain, where thousands of companies create VizSpaces (visual spaces) to showcase their products and services. In these VizSpaces companies upload their visual content (images, 2D drawings, 3D models, catalogs) and other product-related information. Imaginestics’ visual search engine, VizSeek, then matches the companies’ visual content with visual input of buyers entered directly in VizSpace or from “Request for Quotes” from interested buyer’s technical requirements. Imaginestics has an exclusive license from Purdue University for patents in shape search area, which are used for certain methods in the VizSeek engine.
“It is gratifying to receive approval for this patent. This, along with our other patents, is foundational for Imaginestics. The patent is a testament to the company’s innovation and years of hard work”, stated Nainesh Rathod, Imaginestics’ CEO. He goes on to cite “recent competitive wins in manufacturing markets attests to our entire approach of using shape of manufactured components as the medium to connect buyers and sellers.”
Imaginestics’ approach is the answer to large unwieldy databases of complex images, drawings and component models inherent in engineering and manufacturing markets. VizSeek’s ability to search using shape, ranging from the most rudimentary doodles to three-dimensional images, give users a degree of control not possible with text-based search engines. Users can find the right part at the right time, which leads to an increase in re-use of existing designs and a reduction in redundancy and re-work.
