First Ever Monthly Subscription Model of Targeted Solid Edge Offerings Available Now to Local Motors Community

Siemens PLM Software announced a new subscription licensing model, for several functional levels of Solid Edge® software, that is being introduced exclusively through Local Motors, a Siemens PLM Software partner, to the Local Motors global community. With today’s announcement, this diverse community can now select from multiple levels of professional-grade computer-aided design (CAD) functionality – and download at an easy-to-afford monthly rate – to best match their varied design requirements.

Starting with Solid Edge Design1™ software, the recently announced solution that offers professional-grade CAD functionality packaged specifically for the functional needs of design enthusiasts, the Local Motors community can now move up the functional ladder to license Solid Edge Design and Drafting, Solid Edge Foundation, Solid Edge Classic and finally to Solid Edge Premium. Each of these different functional levels of Solid Edge includes synchronous technology, a unique capability which combines the speed and flexibility of direct modeling with the precise control of dimension driven design. All of the offerings can be downloaded and licensed on a month-to-month basis with no long-term commitment. The pricing structure provides an easy-to-afford monthly licensing model that enables each community member to access the appropriate level of capability corresponding to their needs at any given time. For a complete description of the capabilities and subscription pricing for each level of Solid Edge, please visit http://www.local-motors.com/solidedge. Targeted solutions create value for multiple customer profiles.

“Local Motors’ unique co-creation process attracts a number of different personas to our on-line automotive design community, and each one brings a different background and set of requirements for the level of functionality they need in a CAD tool,” said Jay Rogers, president, CEO and Co-Founder, Local Motors. “The Solid Edge Design1 software is primarily targeted at the needs of the typical design and engineering enthusiasts in our community. However, small proprietors in the OEM or supplier aftermarket, or even managers working for automotive OEMs also want to tap into this community or possibly outsource projects to leverage the crowdsourcing model for a targeted Local Motors project. For these use cases, a broader spectrum of CAD functionality is important, and the pay-as-you-go subscription model presents an ideal business model for them to leverage.

“In addition to the industry-leading technology of its Solid Edge offering, we partnered with Siemens PLM Software because they made a commitment to work with us to provide functional and business solutions for all the personas in our community, and today I am delighted to say they have delivered on that commitment,” added Rogers.

“We are continuing to push the boundaries in the CAD industry to meet changing demands of the market and address the needs of innovative product development environments like Local Motors.” said Karsten Newbury, senior vice president and general manager, Mainstream Engineering Software Business Segment, Siemens PLM Software. “Solid Edge Design1 eliminated the cost barrier that prevented access to professional grade CAD software for the design and engineering enthusiasts in Local Motors’ community. With its easy-to-afford monthly subscription and industry-leading synchronous technology, Solid Edge Design1 is the perfect starting point for the design enthusiast. Today’s announcement creates a complete spectrum of offerings for the Local Motors community that deliver the CAD functionality and scalable pricing structure needed for any given job. As a result, we are taking another step forward toward making professional-grade CAD more easily available to a broad cross section of users, from the design enthusiast to the maker of new products.”

The subscription model announced today is available immediately to the Local Motors global community.
