EuroMold was Successful for OPEN MIND; Timesaving CAM Strategies

OPEN MIND is pleased with the reception given to its hyperMILL® 2011 CAM software at this year’s EuroMold. Trade fair visitors were impressed with hourly live presentations of the software on a Hermle C30, together with cutting tool manufacturer EMUGE-FRANKEN. The technical lectures were also well received.

“EuroMold provided the highlight to a very successful year for OPEN MIND,” says Volker Nesenhöner, CEO of OPEN MIND. “We’ve received specific inquiries and a very positive overall response to our current CAM innovations, which confirms once again that we are on the right path. We are very optimistic about the future.”

Saving time for the user was the major theme behind the new features in the September release. To reduce programming time and make machining more efficient, OPEN MIND relies on hyperMILL® 2011 for automated programming and the clever utilisation of existing manufacturing expertise. Proven feature technology for intelligent macros was further developed for this purpose along with other enhancements. Users can now save predefined rules and conditions for every stage of the machining process in the CAM software. Job steps are automatically assigned and adjusted to the corresponding geometry in accordance with these rules and geometry information such as diameter, depth, open or closed pockets.

5axis machining in one setup

Visitors to the stand were visibly impressed by OPEN MIND’s utilisation of innovative technologies to exploit the possibilities for 5axis machining and to reduce processing times by completing the machining in a single setup.

The further optimisation of machining strategies not only reduces the programming time but also accelerates and refines the manufacturing steps. The new shape offset roughing and finishing function offers a strategy for 5axis machining of surfaces with a uniform offset while avoiding the formation of “steps”. hyperMILL®’s automatic 5axis approach and retract strategies improve machining safety and quality, while improved 5axis swarf cutting results in better surface quality.
