Cadence Virtual System Platform Named as American Technology Award Finalist in Software Category
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. today announced that the Cadence® Virtual System Platform has been named a finalist in the software category for the 2012 TechAmerica Foundation American Technology Awards (ATAs). Winners of the ATAs, which recognize products and services that span the high technology industries, will be announced at the Technology and Government gala dinner in Washington, D.C. on June 13, 2012.
The awards, also known as the “Termans” in honor of the widely credited father of Silicon Valley, are awarded on the basis of a thorough evaluation by industry experts and technology leaders. Cadence is a software finalist along with IBM’s Watson technology and Raritan Inc.’s dcTrack DCIM Software.
“Software is eclipsing hardware as the main driver of end-product schedules and cost, particularly in rapidly evolving markets such as mobile and consumer electronics,” said Nimish Modi, senior vice president, System and Software Realization Group at Cadence. “The Cadence Virtual System Platform enables hardware-aware software development to start months earlier in the product lifecycle, leading to shortened overall time-to-market. This in turn can have a material impact on profitability for our customers, whose products fuel an increasingly mobile and connected world. We are honored that our innovation has been recognized by the TechAmerica Foundation as an American Technology Award finalist.”
Virtual System Platform Speeds Software Prototyping
Part of the Cadence System Development Suite, the Virtual System Platform simplifies the creation and support of virtual prototypes before committing to hardware design, following an open, connected, and scalable approach. It automates the process of creating a virtual prototype and debugging software —allowing software development to begin months earlier and preventing schedule slips in prototype delivery. The Virtual System Platform also enables transaction-level model (TLM)-aware hardware/software debugging with complete visibility and controllability, and supports mixed TLM/RTL simulation with the Incisive® Verification Platform, as well as co-simulation with the Palladium® XP Verification Computing Platform. Using this software, design teams can:
- Begin software development months before RTL and FPGA prototypes are available
- Create a standards based initial working virtual prototype in days versus weeks
- Improve collaboration between hardware and software development teams
- Quickly bring-up silicon with working software

Kevin Johnson, CEO of Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) will also be honored during the dinner with the American Technology Awards Corporate Leadership Award and Department of Homeland Security Chief Information Officer, Richard Spires will be recognized as the Government Technology Executive of the Year.
