Announcing CYA SmartRecovery v6.0 for EMC Documentum

enChoice Inc.®, today announced the availability of CYA SmartRecovery™ for EMC Documentum version 6.0. This new release of CYA SmartRecovery enables customers to protect their information from data breaches by preserving Documentum content encryption and improved backup performance with the introduction of DirectCopy backup mode.

EMC Documentum is managing critical data and insuring recovery and security is a top priority for organizations. A study from the Ponemon Institute reveals that the average cost of a data breach increased by seven percent to $7.2 million in 2010. Enterprise ITPlanet.com observed, "what used to be a straightforward process of loading data onto tape, cataloging it and storing it away, either on-site or off-premises, has become a critical item on security and compliance checklists.”

EMC Documentum Trusted Content Services protects this data by automatically encrypting the content files for the user. With this new version of CYA SmartRecovery, it will back-up the content via the DirectCopy back mode and store the encrypted backup copies. This insures information is secured and helps avoid any external breaches. In addition, DirectCopy backup mode will improve performance by performing the backup at the operating system layer which will yield faster backup & recovery times.

A Real Life Incident - IEEE, the World’s largest Professional Technical Association implemented EMC Documentum to streamline and automate their editorial/production process. After the ECM implementation, IEEE had three incidents where a loss of critical business information occurred. One incident resulted in 80 articles being destroyed, including all of the subfolders, lifecycle states, digital signatures, workflow events and any other related metadata. This resulted in over 2 weeks of work effort and a loss of tens of thousands of dollars.

IEEE deployed CYA SmartRecovery to more effectively protect documents and their business processes. Since deploying CYA SmartRecovery, IEEE has experienced as least 8 incidents where information was deleted, missing or corrupted that needed to be restored. Today, with CYA SmartRecovery one person can recover lost documents in minutes what would normally take hours if not days. The result was payback of their investment in only a few months.

CYA SmartRecovery is an ECM application-aware solution that complements existing backup technologies by providing hot, synchronized backups and granular recovery of Documentum repository information. This facilitates compliance by insuring data integrity, meeting or exceeding service level agreements (SLAs), and safeguards against logical failures by enabling one, several, or thousands of objects to be restored back into the repository in their original state without taking Documentum offline. It also works seamlessly with traditional backup solutions such as EMC NetWorker, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), and Symantec NetBackup to reduce data loss window to just 15 minutes in the event of a disaster.

“This release provides not only the operational recovery customers rely on but the security, encryption and performance enhancements for EMC Documentum, said Mike Fernandes, VP Product Development at enChoice.” Now customers are insured their critical content is also safeguarded from data breaches.
