CIM DATABASE 10

At the User Meeting 2012, on 20-21 June in Bremen, CONTACT Software presented the release 10 of its open product data and collaboration platform CIM DATABASE. Product innovations and CONTACT's business development were presented to over 200 customers, partners and prospects. The PLM software will be released in the 4th quarter of this year.

CONTACT is growing dynamically on a solid foundation, Managing Director Karl Heinz Zachries underlined at the beginning of the event. The take-over last year of the Fast Concept Modelling (FCM) Toolset from the Munich-based ForceFive AG was a milestone that gave the company access to new markets and customers. Pointing out the acquisition of well-known automotive OEMs, Zachries emphasized the advantages of this solution for the rapid development of concept models.

The focus of the two-day event was on the numerous new applications for CIM DATABASE 10. Through the independent release-management of platforms and applications, the innovation speed has increased significantly, CONTACT's head of development Frank Patz explained. One of the central new applications is the web-based collaboration portal for distributed cooperation with partners and suppliers. The new portal solution makes it possible for the first time to integrate process-controlled, secure collaboration with the PDM backbone in the company. Not to mention that it is one of the first applications with the new CIM DATABASE Look & Feel which builds on the wide-ranging capabilities of latest web standards. The new GUI elements will also soon be available on iPads and other mobile devices.

Under the name Virtual Product, CONTACT announced further developments in variant, configuration and product structure management. Together with the new solution for requirements management, the PLM provider is targeting companies which develop complex products based on systems engineering procedures.

CONTACT also extended its platform especially for management and project controlling with universal metrics and key performance indicators. It also includes a response management feature for handling deviations between actual values and the specifications from project control and management. Additionally, key performance indicators are time-series supported, automatically calculated and visualized from the data set, in order to be able to systematically monitor PLM processes based on KPIs such as the time to fulfillment of engineering changes.
