Luxion Partners with DuPont Performance Coatings to Replace Traditional Paint Swatch

Luxion, a developer of  3D rendering and lighting technology and makers of KeyShot®, is pleased to announce that DuPont Performance Coatings will link its proprietary digital color rendering technologies with Luxion’s digital object rendering software. This will allow DuPont customers in the transportation and aerospace industry to use KeyShot to get a full understanding of color and paint of their products in real time without having to rely on physical samples.

Relying on Luxion’s proven rendering technology, KeyShot users will be assured they end up with the right paint color every time instead of having to rely on the traditional 2” by 4” paint chip. With the capability to instantly apply and view dozens of accurate coating colors under real world lighting conditions, users can make decision with confidence directly on the digital model enhancing the product development, sales and marketing processes.

“DuPont Performance Coatings is pleased to partner with Luxion, a leading visualization software developer,” said Dan Benton, DuPont Performance Coatings North America color marketing manager. “The combination of digital solutions from Luxion and DuPont will allow customers to accurately render objects and color, allowing for faster decision making, and lower costs.”

DuPont Performance Coatings has been recognized in color coatings for over 90 years. DuPont scientists have developed some of the most innovative colors, and color tools in the industry. DuPont was the first company to use colorimeters in automotive coatings, apply algorithms to measure, and adjust color formulas. The extension of DuPont’s expertise in color science technology is leading efforts to visually render color coatings. Luxion’s technology will offer designers and customers the ability to visually display colors from DuPont’s automotive color libraries.

Accurate digital color rendering is important in communicating color in any industry under different illuminating conditions. In the automotive industry color rendering requires the visual differential between solid colors and metallic colors. DuPont has lead the industry in color rendering as their scientists have explored this area for the past 40 years. Today’s methods are growing to expand into the newest pigment and paint technologies as they become available.

Luxion Co-Founder and Chief Scientist Dr. Henrik Wann Jensen stated: “We’re extremely pleased to be the technology partner of coatings industry leader DuPont Performance Coatings to take advantage of their color science initiatives. This is an excellent demonstration of two companies in different industries coming together to deliver a rendering software solution that customers have needed for many years.”

To experience the first implementation of Luxion’s partnership with DuPont, visit Luxion’s booth #1101 at the upcoming Siggraph 2012, August 7 – 9 in Los Angeles, CA.
