China’s Ministry of Education to Use Siemens PLM Software Technology to Certify Engineering Talent

Siemens PLM Software today announced the signing of a long-term memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Education Management Information Center of the People’s Republic of China Ministry of Education (MOE). The MOU establishes cooperation between the two parties to support the National Computer-Aided Technology Certification Project (CAXc Project) aimed at cultivating innovative engineering technology talent and enhancing career competitive advantages for China’s university and secondary vocational school students.

“We are very glad to have Siemens PLM Software as our partner and look forward to working together to carry out the certification and training of application engineers in computer-aided technologies,” said Xue Yumei, Division Chief of the Education Management Information Center under China’s MOE. “It is widely known that Siemens PLM Software holds a leading global position with its industrial software products and technologies. The cooperation between us will play a critical role in promoting engineering teaching system reform in universities and other educational institutions in China, guiding the schools to actively cultivate engineering talent, improve students’ professional skills and career competitive advantages, and accelerate the training of compound IT talents to meet social needs.”

CAXc Project pilot sites have been established at educational institutions across China to train and certify tomorrow’s engineering technology workforce and expand the influence of computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAX) subjects. Through Siemens PLM Software’s Global Opportunities PLM (GO PLM™ initiative) academic partner initiative, both Siemens and the MOE are committed to growing the number of CAXc Project sites and students across China to reach more than 20,000 certifications per year by 2016.

The CAXc Project has established the official Application Engineer for Computer-Aided Technologies certification process which China’s MOE and Siemens will leverage to help accelerate the development of certified industrial IT talent, boost the application of computer-aided and digital technologies in the field of engineering, and promote internships that include industry-based practical training for students.

“We are pleased to sign this long-term MOU establishing cooperation with the Education Management Information Center,” said Leo Liang, Vice President and Managing Director, Siemens PLM Software for Greater China. “We attach great importance to our cooperation with the Ministry of Education on the training of new engineering talent.”

“Together with China’s MOE and educational institutions, Siemens will leverage our GO PLM program to cultivate and train tomorrow’s outstanding digital design and manufacturing management workforce,” said Bill Boswell, Senior Director of Partner Strategy, Siemens PLM Software. “This cooperation extends our already robust student certification program in China to tens of thousands of additional students.”

Both parties signed the MOU in Beijing, China, on July 27, 2012. Xue Yumei, Xu Shoufeng and Wang Lijun, Directors of CAXc Project Management Office of the Education Management Information Center, Leo Liang, and Chijen Hsu, Director of Siemens PLM Software Shanghai Research and Development Center, attended the signing ceremony.

Siemens PLM Software’s Global GO PLM initiative delivers PLM software technology to more than one million students yearly at over 11,400 institutions globally. The software provided through GO PLM is used at every academic level – from grade schools to graduate engineering research programs. Through the GO PLM program CAXc participants can access Siemens PLM Software’s NX™ software for integrated computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis, Teamcenter® portfolio for digital lifecycle management, Tecnomatix® portfolio for digital manufacturing, process development, simulation and automation, and Solid Edge® software, a complete hybrid 2D/3D CAD system for the mainstream market.
