IES Launch New OPTIMISE Consulting Service

Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), a provider of integrated performance analysis software and consulting services for sustainable building design and operation, today announced the launch of its new OPTIMISE consulting service. A special launch event is taking place today in London to celebrate the successful conclusion of this 2 year funded project from the Technology Strategy Board.

Bringing together a unique mix of partners and expertise, the project has produced the first tool of its kind to incorporate simulation based optimisation to provide designers with automatically generated design solutions. Solutions that minimise the carbon emissions, capital costs, and life cycle costs of a building presented alongside design goal sensitivity.

As Project Managers, IES led the team in collaboration with AECOM, Mott MacDonald, Ingenium Archial, Davis Langdon an AECOM Company, CIBSE and Loughborough University. OPTIMISE will be available initially through IES Consulting's expert projects team with the final product due to be released in November 2012.

The Consulting Service will help industry practitioners realise efficiency in design decisions alongside efficiency in building energy. The service will deliver speedy feedback on numerous form, construction and HVAC permutations enabling design teams to hone-in on the optimal configuration instantly. The tool now makes it possible to assess hundreds of design options simultaneously, and automatically score the results against selected criteria. By implementing this service at key stages of the design process designers are able to answer their design questions with certainty and deliver a truly optimal design.

“I am delighted that IES have played such a vital part in the successful completion of this project”, says Don McLean, Founder and Managing Director of IES. “All of the partners have worked excellently together, and as a result we have managed to create a real ground-breaking tool. Right at the cutting edge, OPTIMISE is a huge advancement in the sustainable building industry and a great example of the UK leading the way with this type of technology.”

Victoria Blower, AECOM’s Consultant Engineer, Building Engineering, Europe adds, “AECOM is delighted to have had the opportunity to contribute both design and cost management expertise to this pioneering project.  This tool will inform critical decisions at both conceptual and detailed design stages.  It identifies optimal design solutions that consider key priorities including budget, energy use and carbon emissions and will play a significant role in enhancing the process of sustainable design”.
