Intergraph® SmartMarine® 3D has been Selected by Keppel FELS Limited as the 3D Modeling Solution for its Next-generation Semisubmersible Drilling Rig
Intergraph® SmartMarine® 3D has been chosen by Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) as its 3D modeling and production solution of choice for its new offshore projects, including its next-generation semisubmersible drilling rig for deployment in Brazil.
Keppel FELS is a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine, and it sought to implement a next-generation 3D modeling solution for its projects to support business growth and enhance its leadership position. The company selected SmartMarine 3D and began using Intergraph's solution for a pilot project in 2006. Keppel FELS was impressed with SmartMarine 3D's rule-based design and open architecture, and Intergraph's commitment and dedicated support to ensure the success of the SmartMarine 3D implementation. The company deployed SmartMarine 3D in a global workshare mode among Keppel FELS headquarters in Singapore and its engineering subsidiaries around the world. This allows users from different parts of the world to work and collaborate on the same projects in near real-time, enabling Keppel FELS to optimize its engineering resources and promote concurrent engineering for enhanced safety, quality and productivity.
Today, SmartMarine 3D is the 3D modeling solution of choice for Keppel FELS and is used in the company's new offshore projects to deliver productivity gains. Keppel FELS implemented SmartMarine 3D for the design of a semisubmersible drilling rig for Sete Brasil, which is based on Keppel's proprietary DSS™ 38E design. This design won Keppel FELS the top honor of "Best of Show" in the 2011 Intergraph Golden Valve Awards. SmartMarine 3D played a significant role in the design enhancement of DSS™ 38E, recognized as one of the world's most advanced drilling semisubmersibles. This rig will support the exploration of Brazil's estimated 50 billion barrels of deep-sea oil and gas reserves.
