CIMdata Publishes Research on ENOVIA V6

CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic consulting and research firm announces publication of a white paper titled Creating Simplicity from Complexity to Achieve Market Success, which features new research on the real-world application of the ENOVIA offering from Dassault Systèmes.

Increasing complexity is a fact of life in business today. Even for something as simple as a Starbuck’s coffee, there are 87,000 “configurations” possible that would take a single consumer over 300 years to try. Companies must provide a never ending series of product and service choices, increasingly in global markets. This mass customization must address a complex web of customer needs and compliance requirements across multiple countries and regions. For engineered products, this requires the ability to engineer to order to meet varied needs. One way that leading companies attempt to reduce product complexity is by developing their products as “global platforms” that can be more easily adapted to local needs and requirements. Platform-based development helps reduce risk by, in essence, holding some product development variables constant, and limiting variation to specific areas. Car companies have been doing this for decades, with one platform sheathed in multiple bodies, powered by different engines, and equipped with different levels of trim and options. This approach is also common in other industries, such as consumer goods and durable goods, where the internals of a product are shared across multiple stock-keeping units (SKUs), and product variation may come from the external suppliers or software controls.

Creating and managing products as “platforms” requires global development environments that can intelligently embody and share knowledge for product and process development across the extended enterprise. These technology and process solutions help enable product lifecycle management (PLM), which CIMdata defines as a strategic approach that leverages people, processes and technologies to optimize product development. PLM strategies, and the product development solutions that enable them, must support organizational processes designed to optimally leverage the vision and talent of a distributed workforce.

Dassault Systèmes, a long-time leader in the PLM market, provides the “3DEXPERIENCE Platform,” which covers the entire spectrum of product development domains defined by 3DS as including social innovation, 3D modeling, content and simulation, search platform, and real-time 3D experience. ENOVIA V6 is the Dassault Systèmes application for collaborative innovation and is a core component of the company’s social industry strategy, which offers a broad range of solutions to enable different aspects of the product lifecycle. By their very nature, PLM-enabling environments at leading companies can be extremely complex and the right choice of platform solutions, and their provider, can help those companies reduce their complexity and simplify their environments to the greatest extent possible.

The focus of this paper is to illustrate how Dassault Systèmes’ long-time customers are leveraging ENOVIA V6 to empower their global teams to address these product development challenges.
