SOLID EDGE NOW AVAILABLE FREE TO ALL SECONDARY SCHOOL EDUCATORS

Siemens PLM Software Continues Investment in STEM Education to Meet Growing Demand for Engineering Graduates

As part of its ongoing investment in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, Siemens PLM Software today announced a free High School Edition of  its Solid Edge® software for 3D computer-aided design (CAD) that is now available for educators in all secondary schools throughout the world. The software is being made available to teachers and instructors in an effort to expose students to the same engineering and product design tools used by manufacturers worldwide, and encourage them to pursue STEM careers, thus helping address the global skills shortage in engineering and related fields. Educators can download a free 12-month academic site license at www.siemens.com/plm/solid-edge-highschool. “The global manufacturing community – including our customers – need a steady stream of engineering talent that understands how to use modern technology to innovate and create products to meet the growing demands and challenges of the marketplace,” said Karsten Newbury, senior vice president and general manager, Mainstream Engineering Software, Siemens PLM Software. “Through our long-term commitment to STEM education, we hope to nurture the inventors and innovators of the future. As students enter high school they begin making decisions about higher-education and potential careers. The free High School Edition of Solid Edge will help educators expose students to advanced CAD design, giving them a glimpse into possible career opportunities.”

The High School Edition of Solid Edge builds on the success of the Student Edition, which gives free access to all full- or part-time students throughout the world at any academic level. The High School Edition now gives teachers and instructors access to Solid Edge for use in both the classroom and in extra-curricular projects. By providing both educators and students with the latest 3D CAD technology that is easy-to-learn and use, Siemens aims to help educators increase student interest in STEM. And by offering these academic editions of Solid Edge at no cost, , Siemens is helping to address the persistent tightening of school budgets.  The High School Edition of Solid Edge contains Siemens PLM Software’s unique synchronous technology, which combines the speed and flexibility of direct modeling with the precise control of dimension-driven design. Schools will have access to the full function modules of Solid Edge drafting, sheet metal, surfacing and advanced assembly design. The 12 month, free license can be renewed on an annual basis.

For more information and access to free learning tutorials and self-paced training, please visit the Solid Edge educator resource page or go directly to download the High School Edition.
