L-3 Link Simulation & Training Cuts Engineering Change Orders by Ninety Percent Using Capital Software from Mentor Graphics

Mentor Graphics Corp. reported that L-3 Link Simulation & Training’s (L-3 Link) operation in the United Kingdom has cut the number of electrical engineering change orders (ECOs) at production by 90 percent using Capital® software. The improvement is largely attributed to the Capital tool’s detailed component modeling functionality, extensive checking automation, and database stability, among other tool capabilities. Together, these help ensure design data arriving at production is of the highest quality.

L-3 Link designs and builds flight simulators, supplying multiple customers worldwide. The high level of complexity of modern simulators severely strains design processes and the software used to support them.

“The reduction of ECOs is particularly impressive, because the first machine L-3 designed using the Capital tool simulated the highly sophisticated Boeing 777 aircraft,” said Martin O’Brien, general manager of the Integrated Electrical Systems Division of Mentor Graphics. “The benefits that L-3 Link has gained in terms of reduced cost and schedule delay really show the power of this toolset in aerospace and related industries.”
