Advanced Solutions Sponsors the University of Louisville SAE Baja Team

Advanced Solutions, an Autodesk Platinum Partner and Authorized Training Center (ATC), announced that they will sponsor the 2013 University of Louisville North American Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Baja Team.

The University of Louisville SAE Baja team annually competes along side of 120 International Universities in the North American Society of Automotive Engineers (NASAE) Baja series. Teams are judged on design and vehicle performance by representatives from corporations such as, Honda, Briggs and Stratton, Toyota and many others.

Students from all education levels work in teams throughout the season to create, design and fabricate their vehicle. Each team member brings his or her own unique experience and background to the team, providing diversity, innovative thought and creativity. The 2013 season will be the first time the University of Louisville team will compete in all three North American competitions.

Team Captain Brad Cottrell stated, "The University of Louisville Baja SAE team is highly respected in the Baja SAE series, consistently ranking among the top fifteen teams worldwide. In 2012, Louisville SAE Baja completed its most successful season ever, placing 5th in Alabama and 9th in Oregon! Our success would be impossible without the generous support of sponsors like Advanced Solutions."

Advanced Solutions believes in educating the next generation of Engineers, Manufacturers and Designers with the most innovative technology and support possible. Brad also shared the team's new design goal for 2013, "Composite materials are being introduced into the design of the vehicle in order to reduce overall vehicle weight. In addition, several steel OEM components are being replaced by custom designed 7075-T6 aluminum parts to save weight while maintaining the strength of the steel counterparts. A new rear suspension configuration is being implemented to reduce weight and retain the customizability of the 2012 suspension. Midnight Mayhem IV was the test bed for a new transmission that will be used this year. It did not disappoint; accelerating faster than any other car on the track and outrunning them on the top end, as well!"

In support of the 2013 goal, they felt the sponsorship by Advanced Solutions would raise the level of design the students would experience, allowing them to compete in all three SAE competitions and make the team eligible for the Mike Schmidt Iron Team Award.

During a tour of the UofL Speed School SAE Baja campus garage, Team Captains, Brad Cottrell - Fabrication Lead, Alex Bays - Suspension Lead and Logistics, Brad Arlinghaus - Driveline lead, Matt Boian - Chassis Lead and Chief Engineer, shared their experiences, challenges and successes from being a part of this amazing academic design team. As the season progresses, the other team members, Nic Day, Justin Joiner, Isaac Phelps, Allen Seelhorst and Stanley Raspis, will prepare to take the lead in the coming season, as the graduating captains begin to pass the torch.

Advanced Solutions is honored to be a part of this incredible learning experience.
