At the opening of its academic year 2013-2014, Nyenrode Business Universiteit has granted an honorary doctorate to Natarajan Chandrasekaran (Chandra), CEO and Managing Director of TCS. The university conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Chandra for his significant contributions toward business and society with a relentless focus on delivering value to global businesses, his stakeholders and local communities around the world. The Nyenrode Business University is the only private university in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1946 by leading Dutch companies with the motto “for and by business.”

Prof. Dr. Désirée van Gorp, Professor of International Business Strategy and promoter, said, “Chandra is a true inspiration for the global business community. His achievements as an entrepreneur and business leader have made a great impact on both global economy and society. He is a true advocate of corporate stewardship, and this is demonstrated by the refined sustainability program at TCS, which focuses on education, environment and wellness. We are pleased to grant Chandra this honorary doctorate since Nyenrode Business Universiteit recognizes the core values of leadership, entrepreneurship and stewardship in his achievements.”

In his response to the honorary doctorate, Chandra said, “This is a great privilege for me to have this honor conferred on me by a university that has a proud heritage of having produced some of this country’s finest business leaders. At Tata Consultancy Services, it has always been a priority for us to focus on the twin path to achieve industry-leading business excellence and working sustainably in the communities where we operate.”

TCS has been operating in the Netherlands since 1992 and has over 2500 employees catering to a strong client base in the country, comprising leading Dutch corporations such as ABN AMRO, Royal Haskoning, ING Group, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and NXP Semiconductors. The company has been stepping up its presence across Europe and in the Netherlands, through an expansion in both its business and community engagement. Through its involvement with over 140 schools across Europe, it is working with young people across the continent to prepare them for successful careers in the digital age.

In October 2012, the TCS Amsterdam Marathon, a venture that the company supports, comprised 38,000 runners who jointly raised Euros 115,000 for the official charity – the VUMC Cancer Center Amsterdam. TCS was recently rated by the CRF Institute as the Top ICT Employer of the year 2013 in the Netherlands. The award underlines the high quality of TCS’ human resource practices, focusing on personal growth and development of its employees worldwide. Chandra was also previously awarded the Medal of the City of Amsterdam – “Frans Banninck Coqc” medal in recognition of his endeavor to promote trade and economic relations between Amsterdam and India.
