MSC Nastran, Patran and Adams are Crucial to Innovative Vehicle Design Studies at California State University, Sacramento
MSC Software Corporation announced that MSC software products, MSC Nastran, Patran, Adams and are integral to research in Ground and Space Vehicle Dynamics and Design directed by Professor Jose Granda at California State University, Sacramento. CSUS' research uses the FEA and Multi-body dynamics capabilities of MSC products for the modeling and simulation of nonlinear mechanical behavior of vehicle systems and components under dynamic loading. The ability to model the mechanical responses of various vehicle systems is essential to create the most efficient and effective vehicles.
The goal of CSUS' research is to accurately analyze the design and dynamic reaction of various conventional and experimental vehicles. Representative 3D finite element models are constructed in three-dimensional modeling software and then imported into MSC products and analyzed using the computational capabilities of MSC Nastran and Adams. The main mechanical structures analyzed include the vehicle frame, suspension systems and components of steering, and power train that affect vehicle behavior and the ability to predict the mechanical behavior in response to applied loads. Models simulate natural and extreme loading conditions. MSC's software products use image processing and 3D modeling for structural analysis. Material properties are easily input and the output is then compared to experimental data.
