Dimensional Control Systems Uses D-Cubed 3D DCM

Dimensional Control Systems, Inc. (“DCS”), a leading provider of software and services for manufacturing tolerance analysis and quality management systems, has licensed Siemens PLM Software’s D-Cubed software for use in their 3DCS Mechanical product line. DCS selected D-Cubed 3D dimensional constraint manager (DCM) to provide a critical geometric constraint solving capability. This decision by DCS is a significant endorsement of Siemens’ status as the leading provider of geometric constraint solvers.

Tolerance analysis, also known as variation analysis, is the process of designing a product to geometric tolerances that satisfy quality and cost criteria. The 3DCS Mechanical product line from DCS now enables 3D DCM-based dimensions and constraints to be extracted from and/or added to a CAD model. The motion of components in the model can then be kinematically and statistically simulated, with 3D DCM ensuring that the dimensions and constraints are satisfied. At each step in the motion, 3DCS performs its sophisticated tolerance computations, ensuring that the assembly or mechanism performs as expected across a range of configurations and deviations from the nominal model.

“D-Cubed 3D DCM provides us with a level of functionality, performance and quality that we simply could not find in alternative component technologies” said Dave Johnson, 3DCS Product Manager, for Dimensional Control Systems. “Siemens’ exceptional level of product support was critical to enabling us to integrate 3D DCM in just three months, a very demanding schedule. I would unhesitatingly recommend the D-Cubed geometric constraint solving components and the team behind them to any vendor that needs to rapidly enhance their products in this area.”

“We are particularly pleased to see DCS extending the use of Siemens’ PLM component technology beyond core CAD functionality into specialized functions such as tolerance analysis on CAD models,” said Paul Sicking, senior vice president, Chief Technology Office, Siemens PLM Software. “DCS is the most recent in a long line of leading software vendors to select Siemens’ PLM Components, which is a testament to our open business model.”
