Granta Design: New Materials Information Application for PLM to be shown at PI Congress

At today’s PI Congress, Granta Design will present a new materials application for Teamcenter®, further expanding the range of Granta’s support for design and product development systems.

Granta’s solutions enable best practice in managing, accessing, and applying both corporate materials knowledge and industry-standard materials property reference data. Integrating CAD, CAE, and PLM systems with GRANTA MI™, the materials information management software, puts authoritative materials information into the hands of engineers and designers quickly and traceably.

These integrations are achieved through the GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway™ technology. The growing range of MI:Materials Gateways already includes applications for Abaqus/CAE®, ANSYS®, Autodesk Inventor®, NX®, Pro/ENGINEER® and Creo®. These MI:Materials Gateways operate with a company’s gold-source materials database, providing:

  • The right data, in the right format, with full traceability, when and where it is needed, through access to managed corporate materials data from within CAD and CAE.
  • Support for optimal materials and processing decisions, through dedicated dashboard and reporting tools within CAD.

By providing this materials knowledge management application for PLM systems such as Teamcenter, capabilities already available to designers now become more widely accessible. This benefits both managers and costing, environmental, or other specialists when they review individual products or look across product families.

Users of GRANTA MI:Materials Gateways for CAD systems such as Creo and NX already enjoy access to embedded tools to search and select materials, determine accurate mass roll-ups, and explore eco-design or restricted substances implications. They can quickly and easily make optimal materials decisions using approved and reliable data. Associated attributes such as surface treatment specifications can be automatically imported both to 3D models and to 2D drawings, saving time while supporting traceability and consistency.

GRANTA MI:Materials Gateways for Abaqus/CAE and ANSYS Workbench will also be presented at PI Congress this week. These applications provide direct access to validated materials models for CAE. With these tools, simulation engineers can quickly search and review available materials, determine supported materials models, and use these directly in their CAE environment. This helps ensure consistent results from CAE, even when different design and simulation groups are collaborating across the enterprise.

"Events like PI Congress enable us to discuss firsthand the materials information challenges encountered within design and PLM by managers across a range of industries," commented Dr. Arthur Fairfull, Product Director for Materials Strategy and PLM Integration at Granta Design. "We are delighted to be introducing our latest application, GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway for Teamcenter, to support PLM users across their enterprises."
