CIMdata attended the SAP Infodays for PLM event, held in St. Leon-Rot, Germany on 8-9 May 2018. This session brings together SAP customers, primarily from Germany and Central Europe, SAP partners, and SAP staff to highlight on-going developments, strategies, and futures and showcase leading customers’ work in developing and deploying SAP’s solutions. CIMdata has attended a number of SAP events before but the customer presentations at this event were much more informative than many others heard in the past.

CIMdata attended the annual Aras customer event, ACE 2018, held in Indianapolis on March 20th through 22nd. The format mirrored last year’s, with keynotes for all attendees and multiple parallel tracks. The two and one-half day agenda had up to seven parallel tracks and 20 unique sessions per day. The attendees included a diverse range of users from manufacturers and other industrial companies, as well as the usual implementation partners, industry and financial analysts, and academics.

CIMdata recently attended the IFS World Conference 2018, held in Atlanta, Georgia on 1-3 May 2018. The event totaled about 1,400 people. Today IFS has over 3,700 employees worldwide supporting over 10,000 customers and over one million users in over 60 countries. IFS is included in CIMdata’s global product lifecycle management (PLM) market results because enterprise asset management (EAM), field service management, and MRO are all applications included in CIMdata’s PLM market definition.

The briefing highlighted the significance of simulating everything from raw material to end-use production ready parts, not only prototypes. CIMdata believes Dassault Systèmes has made significant progress simulating the entire Additive Manufacturing (AM) process. Since their acquisition of ABAQUS, Inc., in 2005, the company has transformed the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools from evaluating discrete items to simulating the entire AM lifecycle.

CIMdata believes OpenBOM has identified the correct four aspects of innovative product development in an ever more complex world. Companies that can effectively unite data, process, and the manufacturing value chain through the central concept of the product BOM can leverage the intelligence gained from their interaction to produce winning products. Any product manufacturing company that struggles with maintaining accurate product BOMs and especially those that work with partners and suppliers would be well advised to look at OpenBOM as a possible solution.

PTC and Rockwell Automation, Inc., announced on 11 June 2018 that they have entered into a definitive agreement for a strategic partnership. The partnership will leverage both companies’ resources, technologies, industry expertise, and market presence, and will include technical collaboration and joint global go-to-market initiatives.

On June 14, 2018, Dassault Systèmes, a leader in the global PLM market, announced they had signed a definitive agreement to acquire a majority stake in Centric Software. CIMdata believes this is a good move for Dassault Systèmes.
