Cloud technology has become pervasive in our daily lives. In many enterprise software segments, cloud is the primary route to a customer’s experience. In 2017, CIMdata researched the prospects for cloud and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) adoption, in part, because the PLM Economy was behind other enterprise software segments on adoption. A lot has happened in the last three years. Major solutions providers have invested big in the technology. Two major providers, Autodesk and PTC, led the pack in a move to subscription-based licensing, changing their economic fortunes, and built upon large bets on cloud adoption. Further, many upstarts are using cloud-delivered technology to deliver unique and, based on their success, much-needed solutions. CIMdata decided it was a good time to take another look at this phenomenon and enlisted some market leaders to help.
