CIMdata was provided the opportunity to participate in the recent Phoenix Integration International Users Conference event held in Annapolis, MD, on April 17-19, 2018. Approximately 85 engineers. Scientists, and managers from industry, government, and academia were in attendance at this 3-day event spanning the disciplines of behavior modeling and simulation, multi-disciplinary design analysis and optimization(MDAO), and model-based systems engineering (MBSE).

CIMdata believes that the SIMULIA brand of Dassault Systèmes has made tremendous progress in simulating product, nature, and life. The renewed focus on industry solutions rather than brand products makes it much easier for end users to apply the simulation technology to their specific needs. CIMdata believes that SIMULIA has the major multiphysics and multiscale simulation capabilities to enable the digital twin.

For several years, Aras has included no-cost version-to-version upgrades in their enterprise subscriptions, independent of how the solution has been customized and implemented. This is a rather bold guarantee given the historic challenges the industry has experienced with upgrading highly customized PLM deployments. The Aras PLM Platform is a robust solution with a high degree of resilience to business and technology changes, thereby protecting a company’s short- as well as long-term PLM investment, ensuring future adaptability, and contributing to a reduced total cost of ownership.

CIMdata recently attended Siemens Innovation Day 2018 held in Chicago, Illinois on March 27th at the DMDII facility. This event was an update of Siemens software offerings as they continue to expand their PLM solution portfolio and provide offerings throughout the lifecycle of products and services. There were about 200 industry analysts, journalists, and industrial companies in attendance. The theme for this year’s event was “Unlocking the Potential of Digital Transformation.”

Upchain maintains a persistent record of Why, How, and What decisions were made, and by Whom. Usually, enterprise systems that maintain the single view of truth record What decisions were made and by Whom, but not Why and How. The Why and How remain tribal knowledge among those who participated, which is a risk for the company. Upchain blends enterprise governance with P2P collaboration to seamlessly capture and store the How, What, and Whom of complex product innovation.

CIMdata recently attended the 20th annual SOLIDWORKS World conference in Los Angeles, California. This year's SOLIDWORKS World demonstrated the strength of the SOLIDWORKS community and how its greater eco-system continues to evolve and expand. SOLIDWORKS' fit within Dassault Systèmes' solution and platform strategy continues to evolve and expand as well. These are all reassuring signs for the SOLIDWORKS community, as well as for Dassault Systèmes. Dassault Systèmes' continued long-term commitment to the SOLIDWORKS community is clear.

CIMdata attended the DFMPro annual user meeting, DFX Insights '18, in Detroit. The one-day event was focused on HCL's DFMPro application. CIMdata was impressed with the passion the attendees showed and how they are improving the competitiveness of their companies with design for manufacturability and in particular DFMPro. DFMPro has enabled them to validate the manufacturability of their products before production improving their business performance.

CIMdata has a good understanding of TCS' suite of analytics tools and their systematic approach to developing new and better analytics tools as IoT, cloud, and big data technologies evolve. CIMdata also has a good understanding of TCS' business transformation expertise spread across businesses in different industries. Given these understandings, CIMdata is convinced that TCS' expertise in business transformation together with its depth in developing analytics tools will help companies to successfully take on the transformational journey to become digital enterprises that leverage analytics-driven insights on a consistent and innovative basis.

CIMdata is impressed with Dassault Systèmes' vision for their 3DEXPERIENCE platform and support for different communities. The recent business wins and platform adoption success shows that customers also understand how the platform can help digitalize their businesses. CIMdata will be watching to see how Dassault Systèmes continues to expand and execute its product innovation platform vision.

CIMdata recently attended Oracle's 2018 Modern Supply Chain Experience (MSCE) in San Jose, California. The company continues to make progress on their Oracle PLM Cloud offerings, while still evolving their Oracle Agile solutions per the Applications Unlimited pledge. Based on what we have heard from Oracle at this event, and others that preceded it, Oracle will be ready when they are.
