GRAPHISOFT® has announced the launch of EcoDesigner STAR, the first software that places standard-compliant energy analysis in the heart of the architect's familiar BIM work environment. EcoDesigner STAR enables architects to design the most energy-efficient buildings, by themselves or working together with engineers or specialist consultants. Partnering with StruSoft three years ago, the single mission was to revolutionize how sustainable design is carried out in the Building Information Modeling environment. The result of their cooperation was the realization that while "energy" continues to be primarily a concern for engineers, the most important decisions influencing the energy performance of the completed building are made by the architect. "The combination of the BIM model with hourly energy simulation based on weather conditions and operation profiles creates a virtual reality design environment that adds another dimension to the ArchiCAD Building Information Modeling experience," said Miklos Sved, EcoDesigner Product Manager, GRAPHISOFT. EcoDesigner STAR enables architects to use ArchiCAD's building

What's Your Suite Spot?

Being a PLM value added reseller (VAR) is a challenging gig. You have to stay up-to-date with the latest from your software independent software vendor (ISV). With all of the mergers & acquisitions (M&A) over the last few years, the list keeps growing. There are also business model changes in the offing, with many PLM solution providers adding cloud-based solutions to their on-premise portfolio. In CIMdata’s Channel Practice, we often discuss this issue and suggest that PLM VARs need to find something distinctive, some intellectual property or unique expertise to separate them from the pack. Recently I had a call with Frank Thomas, President of Adaptive Corporation, Inc. (www.adaptivecorp.com), a company that is a great example of building unique offerings on top of their VAR business.  Adaptive started back in 2006 in Cleveland, during the time when IBM and Dassault Systèmes (DS) were changing their go-to-market relationship. Only some IBM business partners

Delcam has released the 2014 R2 version of its FeatureCAM feature-based CAM which provides support for milling and drilling with right-angle heads, and one-stop programming of multiple roughing operations.  Other enhancements in this release include better control of Z-level roughing, and improvements to Wire EDM and chamfering. For full details, including video demonstrations of the new functionality, and to download an evaluation version of FeatureCAM, please go to www.delcam.tv/fc2014 FeatureCAM was the world’s first feature-based programming software when it was launched in 1995.  Constant development since then has ensured that the system has retained its leadership in programming speed and ease of use, while an increased range of strategies has been added to provide more efficient toolpaths giving greater productivity on a wider range of machines. Right-angle heads allow internal pockets to be milled and internal holes to be drilled that would be inaccessible, and so impossible to produce, using a conventional head.  They
