hyperMILL®, the CAM solution from OPEN MIND Technologies AG, is fully compatible with Autodesk Inventor, as officially confirmed once more following certification by Autodesk Inc. for hyperMILL® and the latest release of Autodesk Inventor 2014. The seamless integration of hyperMILL®, including data associativity, allows continuous workflows all the way from design to CNC manufacturing. As with all previous releases, the hyperMILL® CAM software, with its wide range of machining strategies and optimisation features, was subject to thorough testing by Autodesk. This provides users with the peace of mind in knowing that the integration of the programs guarantees full interoperability. Furthermore, the OPEN MIND CAM solution can be accessed directly from within the Autodesk Inventor 2014 user interface and both systems share the same database. This means that CAM operations are automatically updated in hyperMILL® when changes are made to the CAD model. By having the two programs integrated, users are able

Cimatron Limited today announced that its next software release planned for mid-2014, CimatronE version 12, will support the Additive Manufacturing File (AMF) format - the new standard for converting 3D models into digital files for 3D printing and additive manufacturing. Explained Mr. Terry Wohlers, principal consultant and president of Wohlers Associates and member of Cimatron's 3D Printing Advisory Board: "Since the late 1980s, the STL file format has been the de facto industry standard for transferring CAD data to additive manufacturing equipment (3D printers). However, the STL format has no provisions for representing color, textures, materials, lattice/mesh structures, units, and other properties of the finished printed part. "The new XML-based AMF standard was developed to bridge the gap between CAD and modern additive manufacturing technology. This file format contains all relevant information required for making a 3D printed part, including the final part's material, color and internal structure.   "The AMF format was jointly adopted as an

Almost three decades before Building Information Modeling (BIM) would go mainstream, the term “Virtual Building” was used in the earliest implementation of BIM through Graphisoft’s ArchiCAD debut in 1987. Since then, the concept hasn’t changed, but visualization technology has advanced to the point where designers, engineers, contractors, and building owners can become so immersed in the virtual building model that they feel as if they’re actually there. Combined with the visualization services offered by Arch Virtual, technologies like the Unity3D game engine and the new $300 Oculus Rift virtual reality headset are making it possible. “The first thing people do when they put on the Rift is to reach out trying to touch the walls or furniture they see in the virtual model, even it doesn’t really exist,” said Jon Brouchoud, owner of Arch Virtual. “It’s an almost involuntary reaction, which I think that says a lot about how immersed they are.
