3D Systems  announced that it is teaming up with the White House, UI Labs, the Department of Defense and other industry and academic organizations on its recently announced Digital Lab for Manufacturing. As part of this collaboration, 3DS plans to deliver its latest Geomagic® perceptual design to manufacturing tools including scan-to-CAD, and inspection products into the center, providing access for the American manufacturing industry to the most advanced design to manufacturing digital thread. Headed by UI Labs and located in Chicago, the Digital Lab for Manufacturing is an applied research institute that is chartered with the development, demonstration and deployment of digital manufacturing technologies across key manufacturing industries. This White House initiative brings together 40 industry partners, more than 30 academic, government and community partners and an additional 500+ supporting companies. Fouad el Khaldi, Ph.D., General Manager of Industry Strategy & Innovation, ESI Group Dr. Fouad el Khaldi joined ESI Group (ESI) in 1988 and is currently, General Manager of Industry Strategy & Innovation, a position he assumed in 2010. With over 30 years of experience in the CAE industry Fouad has undertaken several different roles of increasing responsibility at ESI including the role of Senior Consultant for a Joint Venture created by IBM Japan and ESI in Tokyo where he was in charge of developing a new solution for sheet metal forming simulation in collaboration with the Japanese Automotive Industry. Meintjes

Keith Meintjes, Ph.D., Practice Manager, Simulation & Analysis, CIMdata Dr. Keith Meintjes has over 30 years of experience in the development and application of simulation tools to transform product development. His achievements include novel methods for combustion simulation, patents for engine design, and strategic planning for the world’s largest commercial HPC facility. Keith joined CIMdata when they acquired CPDA, where he was Research Director for CAE and managed CPDA’s Design/Simulation Council. Previously, he spent nearly 30 years at General Motors. At GM he was responsible for the engineering requirements for GM’s Global CAE IT infrastructure and was named Senior Technical Fellow. van Ruijven

Leo van Ruijven, Manager Technology Development, Croon Elektrotechniek B.V. Leo van Ruijven received his Master of Science degree from the Hoge School van Utrecht in the Netherlands. His thesis was about implementing integral design within the construction industry. Van Ruijven was involved in the design and engineering of one of the largest water barriers in the world, the Stormvloedkering Nieuwe Waterweg in the Netherlands and the Westerscheldetunnel, the longest road tunnel in the Netherlands. As part of these projects he was responsible for risk and availability analysis and the design and implementation of a configuration management system. He is currently responsible for the development and implementation of systems engineering at Croon Elektrotechniek BV.
