PlanetPTC Live 2012 (Commentary)

 PDF CIMdata recently attended PlanetPTC Live 2012 in Orlando, Florida. PlanetPTC Live gives PTC customers the opportunity to showcase their work, network with peers, share ideas, and discuss how they are addressing their challenges. PTC reported that over 1,200 attendees were present at the event. A major theme for PlanetPTC Live was that inspiration is the spark that drives innovation and fuels the technology breakthroughs that help transform great ideas into great products. Several PTC customers shared their stories of how inspiration can impact the world around us. PTC President and CEO Jim Hepplemann opened the annual end-user conference, repeating the bold statement recently published by The Economist magazine that the world is entering into a “third industrial revolution.” Mr. Hepplemann noted that the new era is defined by the transformation of global manufacturing in the digital world, and the leveraging of technologies and the process changes that technology enables.  PDF Food and beverage industry customers demand a continually expanding variety of healthy, high quality products at continuously lower prices. At the same time, food and beverage companies want to expand their markets and sell the same or similar formulas and products in multiple geographic regions. This requires understanding the local culture, tastes, available raw materials and ingredients, and importantly, local regulatory requirements. Perhaps the most difficult issues to address are those related to regulations. Regulatory requirements vary by region and by product and are becoming increasingly complex and difficult to support. Each region and/or product normally requires different packaging, labeling, and reporting. As discussed in the CIMdata white paper, Delivering PLM Technology to Solve Food & Beverage Industry Issues: Infor Optiva, published in May 2012, regulatory issues primarily fall into two categories: food safety, where the product may be physically harmful; and labeling, for which completeness and accuracy are extremely important.

 PDF LMS International held its 2012 European Vehicle Conference on April 18–19 in Munich, Germany. LMS is an engineering services and software company, headquartered in Leuven, Belgium. They are a partner for companies in the automotive, aerospace and other advanced manufacturing industries. They offer a combination of 1D and 3D virtual simulation software, testing systems, and engineering services. This LMS event is a technical conference, aimed at the vehicle engineering community, particularly LMS’ customers. Nearly 300 attendees represented 115 companies, and 44 papers were presented.  PDF Aras recently held its ACE 2012 International Conference in Troy, Michigan. This was the second year in a row that the conference was held in the greater Detroit area. The conference grew from 200+ attendees last year to over 300 this year, with attendees coming from more than twenty different countries. It is a user-focused event supported by Aras and a number of its partners; including both solution implementers as well as independent software providers who are leveraging Aras’ enterprise open source PLM platform. Inforum 2012 (Commentary)

 PDF CIMdata recently attended Infor’s Inforum 2012 in Denver, Colorado. For 2012, the event was combined with the former Lawson CUE user conference. It was positioned as a global event with attendees interested in all of Infor’s business lines and geographies supported. Infor stated that they expected over 5,000 attendees. The theme for Inforum 2012 was “Go Faster” and Infor continually discussed speed as the driving factor for businesses in today’s global marketplace. Charles Phillips, Infor’s CEO, was the keynote speaker on the morning of Monday the 23rd of April. He discussed the evolution of Infor, particularly the new management team and product strategy. He stated that they have transitioned from a company that was just making acquisitions to one that is increasing their investments in research and development to create new products and solutions for their customers.  PDF Dassault Systèmes announced their acquisition of Gemcom Software International (Gemcom), a leader in mining software solutions, and the creation of a new Dassault Systèmes brand to support modeling of the planet and natural resources — GEOVIA. Gemcom, a global company with headquarters in Vancouver, Canada, provides software and services for mining customers to discover, measure, design, plan and manage their mining operations from exploration to exploitation.  PDF CIMdata was invited to attend and speak at Autodesk’s One Team Conference (OTC) 2012 in Las Vegas during the week of March 11. Over three thousand Autodesk global partners and employees attended this annual event, which was greatly anticipated following a recent series of important Autodesk® announcements targeted at the manufacturing industry. These announcements included “Everything Changes,” from Autodesk University last November, and the launch of Autodesk PLM 360 in February. At OTC 2012 CIMdata led two half–day Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) training classes that were attended by several hundred channel partners and employees preparing to take advantage of the many new opportunities these announcements create to better serve Autodesk customers.
