The Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) has launched an advanced automotive technology centre called MAI Intelligent Technology Systems (MITS). According to a statement, this centre is the first-of-its kind in Malaysia and is aimed at boosting product design capabilities and innovation within the domestic automotive components and parts supply chain.   MITS is set up to fill the technological gap within the domestic automotive sector, through a one-stop facility that integrates advanced software, hardware as well as technical consulting support for automotive parts design and development and system engineering works. The system’s main hub is housed in MAI’s headquarters in Cyberjaya.   Altair Engineering Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based simulation technology and engineering services company Altair Inc, will collaborate with MAI as the simulation technology partner for MITS.   Speaking during the launch of MITS on Aug 17, MAI chief executive officer Madani Sahari said, “In line with strategies

PDF Key takeaways: The past several years have seen growing adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, but construction productivity growth has continued to lag manufacturing A convergence is beginning to take place between AEC and manufacturing—AEC customers are increasingly interested in adopting processes and technologies from the manufacturing industry to find ways to realize the productivity potential of their technology investments The need for process improvement is driving interest in new fabrication and assembly techniques, virtual design and construction (VDC), and other innovations, as well as new technology platforms such as product lifecycle management (PLM) related cloud services Introduction The overriding trend and enabler for change in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction market has been the adoption of Building Information Modeling processes and associated enabling technologies. Although estimates vary across studies, the rate of BIM adoption exceeds 50% in most developed markets.[1] One primary economic driver for BIM

Kepware Technologies, a PTC business developing industrial connectivity software, today announced the release of KEPServerEX® version 5.21. The release extends the connectivity options available within KEPServerEX and expands interoperability with the ThingWorx® IoT Platform, further enabling the rapid development and deployment of smart-connected solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). KEPServerEX version 5.21 introduces the new ThingWorx native client interface, a fully-integrated solution built to provide rapid connection to industrial things—including PLCs, RTUs, PACs, DAQs, controllers, and more. The ThingWorx native client interface extends KEPServerEX and leverages Kepware's library of 150+ communication drivers to provide real-time, bi-directional industrial controls data to the ThingWorx IoT Platform. "This latest product release improves upon what is already the industry's strongest solution for IoT connectivity and rapid app development," said Tony Paine, Platform President, Kepware. "The integration provided through the new ThingWorx native client interface gives customers and ThingWorx application developers access to even more options for connectivity and

We are excited to announce that BIM 360 Team has joined the BIM 360 portfolio of services. Formerly A360 Team, BIM 360 Team has been widely adopted by design teams across the AEC and Manufacturing industries for years. BIM 360 Team is built for architecture and engineering professionals.  Through a cloud platform, it enables your team to design, review and iterate on projects from conceptual design through construction documentation. BIM 360 continues to focus on delivering technology to support construction project workflows and empower project stakeholders throughout the construction project lifecycle.  The launch of BIM 360 Docs earlier this year extended the BIM 360 portfolio to stakeholders earlier in the lifecycle — supporting processes like constructability reviews and creating a single data repository to share information between project stakeholders.  BIM 360 Team now expands that reach even further. Now, starting at conceptual design, BIM 360 supports construction project collaboration and workflows through handover and operations.

“Until recently, the engineering organization was based in San Vito, where the entire product development cycle and subsequent modifications requested by customers were carried out,” notes Mainardis. “Currently, to handle our outsourcing and distribution operations, we must keep all project development and update activities under strict control. We want everyone to comply with corporate standards and to share all information. An engineering change carried out in Mexico, for instance, can be useful in other locations, so it must be distributed and accessible throughout the group.” Enter Teamcenter® software for complete PLM and even smarter decisions. Brovedani and other key Brovedani representatives evaluated the software, and then did so again with the support of CCS Team. “Our target is to finalize the project and be up and running by the end of 2012,” he says. “Today, the group employs almost 1,000 people, with approximately 50 persons directly involved in engineering data management. Having passed through the corporate hands of Ford, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has emerged within Tata Motors as an exciting, dynamic global enterprise. Due to its varied ownership history, JLR inherited a complex and mixture of auto industry software from its previous owners, not scaled or supportive of JLR’s aggressive business plan. To enhance innovation and reduce development time, JLR has partnered with Dassault Systèmes to deploy solutions in a business transformation program called i-PLM. Immediate benefits include creating, seeing, experiencing and sharing data in a Version 6 environment, translating into time savings of up to 40% for some specific roles in product development. Propel today announced that it has teamed with Rootstock to help customers easily share critical business information across Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and Field Service departments. Because both applications are built on a common platform, the applications can work together in a single, consistent user interface to increase customer responsiveness, improve product quality, and lower product costs. Since both Propel and Rootstock are native Salesforce solutions, joint customers can make more intelligent business decisions, while avoiding the painful integration procedure that organizations face when ERP and PLM are written on different platforms. Business users can now leverage the best of CRM, PLM and ERP in a quick and easy manner to:  Assess and resolve the impact of field issues on customers, products and inventory Securely share product and operational updates with customers and partners Use a common reporting platform to report across customer, product and manufacturing data View real-time product inventory to determine optimal timing

“At its core, building information modeling (BIM) is about collaboration. The full potential of BIM can only be realized when all stakeholders are connected – from architects to engineers, construction managers, specialty contractors, facility owners, and service trades. The concept of BIM is based upon a common data environment (CDE) that represents an evolving “single source of truth” throughout the lifecycle of a project. The BIM model develops its potential only when all of the stakeholders are contributing relevant and accurate information, and it achieves that potential when the information is available to those who need it, when they need it…” Read the full article here (signing up for an account is free).
