    • 1:00 p.m. – 1:40 p.m. | Digitalization, Model-based X, PLM and the Digital Thread: Where do we go from here?
Don Tolle, Simulation-Driven Systems Development Consulting Practice & Knowledge Council, CIMdata [bio]
PLM, Model-Based Engineering (MBE), Model-Based Enterprise (MBE), Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Model-Based Design (MBD), Model-Based Definition (MBD), etc. The alphabet soup of acronyms being used in industry today to define the digitalization of product development processes throughout the lifecycle is confusing and becoming counterproductive as industry moves towards the adoption of model-centric and systems-driven product development processes. These well-intentioned naming conventions originated from industry groups, as well as from government/DoD, based on the specific interests and objectives of those organizations. This CIMdata presentation will attempt to highlight the differences and overlap of these current different viewpoints and discuss the challenges and emerging opportunities to achieve the "digital thread” vision based on industry’s lifecycle requirements and use cases.
    • 1:40 p.m. – 2:20 p.m. | Defining and Managing the Digital Twin throughout the Lifecycle
      Peter Bilello, President, CIMdata [bio]
For years the vision of product lifecycle management (PLM) has been on defining and managing the virtual product and its related processes throughout the entire lifecycle—from concept through life. But for most companies this has been a struggle at best. Recently, a lot of press and time has been dedicated to a new phrase, the digital twin. For many this is a new name for what they have been trying to accomplish for years. For some this has brought PLM to a higher level in their organization. This presentation will address this evolving PLM focus and show how newer technologies, e.g., IoT, are being used to enable the complete digital twin throughout the entire lifecycle.
    • 2:20 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. | Beams and Bits: Making the Case for Digitalization in AEC
Ed Martin, Director, AEC / Manufacturing Convergence Consulting Practice, CIMdata [bio]
If one word can sum up the state of AEC (and EPC) today, it is fragmented. Digital tools have been applied in isolated areas, but true digitalization has eluded the industry. This presentation will outline the case for using digitalization to improve business processes across AEC and build bridges to manufacturers who supply the industry.
  • 3:00 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. | Networking Break
  • 3:20 p.m. – 4:20 p.m. | End-User Focused Research Topics
In 2017, CIMdata's research agenda will include several topics of interest to manufacturing companies in multiple industries. These short presentations will highlight each area, and seek input from the audience that will help sharpen our focus on these topics.
    • 3:20 p.m. – 3:40 p.m. | Cloud PLM Market Assessment
Stan Przybylinski, Vice President of Research, CIMdata [bio]
Cloud adoption is expanding in other enterprise software categories, but more slowly in PLM. The major PLM solution providers are talking about cloud, but are their cloud revenues material? In this session, CIMdata will discuss the state of cloud PLM, some successes to date, and where the market needs to go.
    • 3:40 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. | IoT: Expanding the PLM Opportunity
Gerard Litjens, Vice President EMEA, CIMdata [bio]
Today, IoT is gaining influence in the product lifecycle and how that lifecycle is managed. A broader set of business functions will be interacting with PLM enabling technologies. The growth of smart connected products makes security paramount. Companies need to design their IoT-enabled offerings as systems of systems, requiring more systems engineering discipline. Meeting this broad set of needs will challenge PLM software and service providers to respond with offerings that can help industrial companies leverage the IoT to maximum effect.
    • 4:00 p.m. – 4:20 p.m. | Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ) and PLM
Stan Przybylinski, Vice President of Research, CIMdata [bio]
Many different industries rely on configure-to-order (CTO) or engineer-to-order (ETO) strategies to profitably deliver products to their customers. Product configurators have long addressed this problem, some technical and some targeted toward business users. Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ) solutions take this one step farther, using engineering and enterprise data to quickly develop profitable bids and solutions to customers’ problems. This session will focus on the CPQ market and solutions and how they can be part of a PLM strategy.
  • 4:20 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. | Closing Comments
    Peter Bilello, President, CIMdata [bio]
