9:30 – 10:45 State of PLM – Today’s Market and Leading Trends

Ed Miller, President, CIMdata

This session will review the current state of the PLM industry, with particular emphasis on trends and issues critical to suppliers of PLM technologies and services. The significant changes occurring in the global economy continue to challenge industrial organizations of all types, and as a result, the PLM suppliers who are competing to sell to them. This by no means changes the fact that PLM is a business-enabling strategy that supports an organization’s need to become more efficient and innovative; basically, companies need to do more with less. Even more than ever, PLM is being seen as a critical component of your clients’ survival strategies. Additionally, PLM’s rapid adoption as a true “enterprise” initiative is becoming more visible, and is driving investments in expanded solutions and developments to make it more valuable to an ever-broadening range of users. In many cases, PLM is needed for the re-tooling of companies and perhaps even entire industries. CIMdata will present its views on these trends and the impact that they have on suppliers competing in this increasingly-challenging market. This session also will provide a brief discussion of the future of PLM, including new or expanded business opportunities that should be considered.

3:00 – 3:45 Short-Term Tactics: Positioning PLM for Success

Peter Bilello, Vice President, CIMdata

Positioning for success in today’s PLM market is fundamentally about differentiation and making sure that you, as a PLM solution supplier, effectively communicate your message to the most appropriate audiences in the most efficient manner possible. Focus is criticalfocusing on the right markets, with the right messages, at the right time are all-important activities to be addressed. PLM solution suppliers can never afford to waste time or other valuable resources, especially in uncertain economic times. The bottom line is that periods of economic uncertainty in the global market bring challenges and opportunities. Existing PLM markets continue to need PLM and new markets continue to open, but the willingness and ability to invest often changes. What are industrial companies looking for? What are companies will to pay for? Where should you focus? What capabilities should you market to which industries and in which markets? What business processes should your technologies enable? What partnerships should you seek? What markets should you enter and/or exit? CIMdata will draw from its global experience supporting PLM initiatives in multiple industries to help you better understand the answers to these and other important questions.

3:45 - 4:30 Long-Term Strategies: Future Considerations for PLM

Ed Miller, President, CIMdata

The current economic times may be uncertain, but the need for PLM isn’t. PLM and its various technological components have been around long enough to survive previous stressful economic times, and these business-critical solutions have continued to grow and expand. Ultimately, successful PLM solution suppliers will be those who are able to balance corporate restraint in some areas and the willingness to expand resources and expenditures in others. Successful PLM solution suppliers will be those that also remember that the key to survival is often based on what you have done during good times and how you prepare yourself during stressful times for the good times that follow. During this session, the future of PLM will be considered. Where is the industry going? How will the shift to the enterprise continue to change PLM? What’s next for PLM? What is its next area of focus? What should be tracked? What industrial markets are ready or will be shortly ready for PLM? What technological elements will be in high demand in the next few years? These and other future-looking questions will be discussed and presented during this session.
