9:30 – 10:45 State of PLM – Today’s Market and Leading Trends

Ed Miller, President, CIMdata

This session will review the current state of the PLM industry, with particular emphasis on trends and issues critical to suppliers of PLM technologies and services. The significant changes occurring in the global economy continue to challenge industrial organizations of all types, and as a result, the PLM suppliers who are competing to sell to them. In challenging times, PLM as a business-enabling strategy is even more important in enabling an organization’s ability to become more efficient and innovative, especially as companies need to do more with the same or less resources. PLM is more and more accepted as a critical component of a company’s survival strategy and an enabler of business recovery. Additionally, PLM’s rapid adoption as a true “enterprise” initiative is becoming more visible, and is driving investments in expanded solutions and developments to make it more valuable to an ever-broadening range of users. In many cases, PLM is needed for the re-tooling of companies and perhaps even entire industries. Social Computing and Compliance are two of the hot initiatives that are being driven in today’s market, and CIMdata is right in front on these programs. CIMdata will present its views on these trends and the impact that they have on suppliers competing in this increasingly-challenging market. This session also will provide a brief discussion of the future of PLM, including new or expanded business opportunities that should be considered.

2:45–3:00 Coffee Break

3:00 – 4:30 Key Areas for Future Development

Peter Bilello, Vice President, CIMdata

In today’s global and extremely challenging market, a company’s business success is affected by a variety of ever-changing internal and external pressures. In this session, we will discuss the impacts of two market trends that affect PLM, which if handled well, can truly accelerate a company’s recovery capabilities.

3:00 - 3:45 PLM and Social Networking

The advent and relatively rapid expansion of Social Networking Services, which seek to build online communities of people who share interests and/or activities, is making a major impact on the general world of computing as well as how individuals, groups, and communities interact. Today, several of the PLM suppliers are developing solutions utilizing social networking technologies and principles to support similar highly-collaborative interactions in a PLM context. Their objective is to leverage social networking technologies to provide enhanced collaborative environments for PLM users that further expand the use of PLM within and across extended enterprises. The questions that arise are: Where is this movement going? Why is it important to the PLM industry? What do we expect to see evolve from it? How can this help to accelerate an enterprise’s recovery and how to benefit from it? These are several of the topics that will be discussed during this session..

3:45 - 4:30 PLM and Compliance

Compliance is a major area of impact on most companies’ product development and support programs and strategies, and subsequently on PLM and other major enterprise strategies and supporting solutions. Compliance embodies all of the green, sustainability, regulatory, and related themes in industry today. Analytics is often used to help communicate the status and results of compliance activities to appropriate individuals so that corporate risk is minimized. Many PLM solution suppliers have developed compliance offerings to address critical business needs with many of the solutions focused on specific industry requirements. Where is this area going and what still needs to be done? How can an enterprise take advantage of this emerging PLM support area to accelerate its recovery? Why is it important to the PLM industry and how to benefit from it? These are several questions that will drive this session.
