VISTAGY Presents Talk by ING Renault F1 Senior Engineer on Reducing Composite Cycle Times at Dassault Conference

VISTAGY, Inc., will be presenting a talk by Ian Goddard entitled, "ING Renault F1 Team: An Inside Look at Reducing Composite Cycle Times and Errors by Automating Analysis Data Transfer," on Monday, October 6, at 2:05 PM at the Dassault Systemes Customer Conference in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Goddard is a Senior CAE Engineer for the ING Renault F1 Team in Oxfordshire, UK. He is part of a small team selecting new engineering technology and supporting design and manufacture with CAD, PDM and specialist engineering software.

As part of the conceptual design process, one particularly challenging problem is the ability to efficiently transfer laminate configuration data from FEA analysis tools to detailed composite design software tools. Manual translation processes between the dissimilar software tools can take up to two weeks, and while there are other third party tools available, none seem to offer a robust integrated solution.

But with a new solution from composites software developer VISTAGY, Inc., the ING Renault F1 Team was able to automatically transfer analysis data to specialized engineering software without having to completely recreate or interpret composite ply data. As a result, the Team reused the initial ply data, seamlessly transferred composite analysis data to the design engineers, automated the manual data translation process for designing complex parts and reduced the number of errors previously introduced by a manual/partially automated translation process.

The Team ultimately reduced overall development time by 60 percent and accomplished the analysis-to-design translation in just two hours, streamlining a process that had previously been very time consuming.

Mr. Goddard graduated with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering at City University, London, UK and a Masters Degree in Computer Integrated Manufacturing at Cranfield University, UK.
