Most Rapidly-Growing CAM Software Market Vendors Named by CIMdata

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, June 20, 2006 — In the recently released NC Software Market Assessment Report, Version 15, CIMdata named SolidCAM as the worldwide most rapidly-growing CAM software vendor in 2005 with a growth rate of 40% over 2004. They were followed in the rankings by DP Technology, Surfware, Gibbs and Associates, and CNC Software. Overall, the worldwide CAM software market grew at a rate of 6.5% over 2004. For 2006, CIMdata projects that SolidCAM will again be the fastest-growing CAM software vendor with a growth rate of 36%.

Mr. Alan Christman, CIMdata Chairman and primary author of the report, states that, “SolidCAM has established a distinctive position in the market by being one of two CAM vendors to be certified Gold partners of SolidWorks. They have been able to capitalize on this partnership and the acceptance of SolidWorks in the mid-range design market and this is the primary reason for their rapid growth. SolidCAM also provides a broad spectrum of CAM capabilities including support for all aspects of hole making, 2 ½-axis through simultaneous 5-axis milling, high-speed milling, indexed “tombstone” machining, basic turning, synchronized mill turning, and EDM. With the SolidWorks relationship, SolidCAM is able to provide a fully associative, integrated offering for design and NC programming.” The market share for the ten largest vendors on the basis of revenues received is shown in the following chart.

The NC Software Market Assessment Report not only ranks CAM suppliers by growth rate, but also by revenue received, end-user payments for their software, industrial and educational seats shipped and installed, distribution channels, and internal resources. It sizes the CAM software market, segments the market by geography, industry, and eight other factors; and includes more than 40 pages devoted to trends in manufacturing, machining, and the NC software market and technology. The report contains 94 charts and exceeds 200 pages.
