In 2012, John McEleney and Jon Hirschtick, the founders of SolidWorks, announced their new enterprise, Belmont Technology. Since then they have been building a team, including many former colleagues, to develop some as yet to be defined product. Given their pedigree and comments to press and analysts, their product will be in the CAD industry and rely in some way on cloud computing.
After several rounds of venture funding, they recently renamed the enterprise Onshape, Inc. (http://www.onshape.com), which they describe as “a venture-funded startup founded by members of the original SolidWorks team plus top engineers from the CAD, data center, mobile and streaming media industries.” According to Onshape, they are “hiring for their Cambridge, MA headquarters and other locations worldwide.
