Dassault Systèmes announced the launch of the “Civil Design for Fabrication” industry solution experience for architecture, engineering and construction (AEC).  Civil engineering and infrastructure construction professionals can now engage in more collaborative, productive and accurate design of roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, highways, dams or other major infrastructure.  “Civil Design for Fabrication” was developed in partnership with the Chinese public engineering company Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute (Group) Co. Ltd. (SMEDI) at the two companies’ joint research and development center in Shanghai. By 2025, the global population will reach 8.1 billion, with rapid urbanization in China, India and Latin America, in particular.  In order to accommodate this surge, an estimated $9 trillion will be spent on building public infrastructure.  As the high demand for quick and cost-effective delivery soars, many projects are plagued by fragmented applications, manual design processes and poor collaboration that delay project execution and increase errors and costs. The latest video added to the Delcam.tv website shows the high metal-removal rates that are possible with the Vortex high-efficiency area-clearance strategy in Delcam’s PowerMILL CAM system for high-speed and five-axis machining.  The demonstration shows Vortex in use on a DMG 65 monoBLOCK five-axis machining centre fitted with Seco tooling.  Other strategies shown in the video include five-axis drilling, sawmill slot milling and five-axis engraving. To watch the video, please go to www.delcam.tv/DMGMORI  Delcam’s Vortex strategy gives the fastest safe metal removal from solid carbide tooling, in particular from designs that give deeper cuts by using the full flute length as the cutting surface.  The strategy, which is also included in Delcam’s FeatureCAM feature-based machining software and the PartMaker system for the programming of turn-mill equipment and Swiss-type lathes, can be used for two- and three-axis roughing, three-plus-two-axis area clearance and for rest machining.  It gives significant time savings regardless of the

PDF Key takeaways: Portfolio, product, and process complexity issues are easy to identify and difficult to quantify but have real impact throughout the product lifecycle Actively managing complexity enables resources to be allocated to higher value activities such as developing profitable product differentiation and more efficient product production Identifying and eliminating sources of non-value-added complexity is not enough, applying a targeted governance strategy and supporting processes can prevent complexity from creeping in Accenture’s end-to-end product complexity management solution focuses on managing product portfolio, design, and process complexity to reduce costs, drive efficiency, and improve profitability The Business Impact of Complexity Complexity can manifest in many areas including the product portfolio, product development, and product production. While not all complexity is bad, care must be taken to ensure that any embedded complexity has real value. Some product complexity is needed to meet diverse customer needs or to differentiate products in the marketplace. The key is how to decide
