Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refinery Company Ltd. (YASREF) has recently chosen Intergraph® SmartPlant® Enterprise solutions to optimize the operation and maintenance of its full-conversion refinery. The project is a significant undertaking and involves the construction and operation of a 400,000-barrel per day (bpd) integrated petroleum refinery in Saudi Arabia. YASREF initially used several solutions from the SmartPlant suite, including SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant P&ID and PDS®. YASREF later implemented the Engineering Document Management System (EDMS) based on SmartPlant Foundation to achieve complete integration. YASREF has achieved fully integrated plant design in order to provide fast, intuitive and role-based access to help manage the most accurate engineering documents. SmartPlant Foundation has provided all required features to manage engineering documents including storage of electronic engineering documents, methods to search and download/upload documents, and full Management of Change (MOC). Abdulhannan M. Karim, senior engineer at YASREF, said, “For YASREF, we executed the implementation of the EDMS in its

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) recently set a new world record by scaling CD-adapco’s flagship simulation tool STAR-CCM+® to 102,000 cores on the Blue Waters supercomputer. STAR-CCM+ is a comprehensive multidisciplinary engineering simulation tool used across many industries to stimulate innovation and lower product development costs. CD-adapco joined with NCSA’s Private Sector Program and Blue Waters manufacturer Cray to push the code to new heights and address the ever-increasing demands of fast turnaround time. According to Ahmed Taha, the NCSA senior computational resource coordinator who led this extreme benchmarking project, using such a massive number of cores requires a powerful, robust MPI protocol, which was provided by Cray. CD-adapco also fine-tuned their code to improve parallel I/O. The result of this collaborative effort over the past eight months was a steady increase in scaling, from a 105 million cell model running on 13,000 cores to a 1 billion cell model hitting

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. announced that it is collaborating with Imagination Technologies to enhance RTL designer productivity and enable faster design convergence on Imagination graphics cores and other Imagination intellectual property (IP) using the Cadence® Genus™ Synthesis Solution. On the PowerVR GE7800 GPU, the Genus Synthesis Solution achieved a 5X improvement in turnaround time versus the previous Cadence synthesis solution with no impact on power, performance or area (PPA). The Genus Synthesis Solution is able to synthesize a flat full graphics processor overnight, significantly improving design productivity by eliminating manual partitioning effort and avoiding poor timing optimization on cross-partition boundary paths. Synthesis runs are automatically distributed across multiple machines and CPUs, eliminating the need for manual design partitioning. This distributed processing includes intelligent resource management to ensure that no machine becomes a turnaround time bottleneck, thereby allowing turnaround times to scale linearly well beyond 10 million instances without any impact on
