Screen Shot 2022-08-13 at 6.05.49 PMThe success of any Digital Transformation initiative depends on addressing a host of critical issues. Chief among them is the robustness of the enterprise’s data model and the role that Data Governance plays. The concept of Data Governance is slowly gaining recognition as a “make or break” factor in this age of digitalization. Digital initiatives that attempt to force a “data culture” by seeking to remove the existing silos of data, ignoring tribal knowledge, and overlooking data quality issues are doomed to failure. Unfortunately, this “magical thinking” that either ignores or underestimates the governance needs of data management tends to focus on low-hanging fruit instead of organizing and installing a sustainable data governance structure and overall strategy. In today’s digital era, it is disheartening that so many organizations have yet to realize that their data—intellectual assets if you will—are critical business assets. As such, they must be the backbone of any digital transformation.

Data Governance treated as a cost to be contained rather than an asset to be leveraged means that Data Governance as an initiative will continue to disappoint leadership and fall short of meaningful and measurable ROI as organizations continue to believe it is a project, not a process that must be thought through to ensure its long-term sustainability.

Executives that champion or sponsor Digital Transformation must do so with the understanding that the success of their investment in people, processes, and organizational elements is highly dependent on a robust data governance strategy that positions them for long-term success.

The webinar covered these major points:

  1. The What and Why of Data Governance?
  2. Data Governance – CDE (Critical Data Elements) for IP
  3. Data Governance – Roadmap
  4. Best Practices for Data Governance Plan

Those unable to join the webinar or would like to review it again can watch it here.
