(Reuters)  Siemens AG has agreed to buy CD-adapco, a privately held U.S. engineering software firm, for close to $1 billion in cash, according to a person familiar with the matter. Siemens's deal with CD-adapco could be announced as early as Monday, the person said, asking not to be identified because the agreement is not yet public. The two companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Melville, New York-based CD-adapco makes computer programs used by engineers to simulate the inner workings of an engine. Those products will complement a business unit of Siemens focused on product lifecycle management software, the person added. Since taking over Siemens as chief executive two years ago, former finance chief Joe Kaeser has set out to reshape the German company and make it more profitable and less cumbersome by selling off non-core units. But Siemens has increasingly had to compete with software companies who can develop technology faster

Delcam has added more five-axis machining functionality in the 2016 R2 release of its FeatureCAM CAM programming software.  Other enhancements include improved control and simulation capabilities for multi-axis machines, plus options to reduce both programming and machining times. FeatureCAM was the world’s first feature-based programming software when it was launched in 1995.  Constant development since then has ensured that the system has retained its leadership in programming speed and ease of use, while an increased range of strategies has been added to provide more efficient toolpaths that give greater productivity on a wider range of machinery, including turn/mill machines, five-axis mills and wire EDM equipment. FeatureCAM 2016 R2 introduces the ability to machine features aligned to the Z axis by using the C axis, rather than by moving in the X and Y axis.  This option, which is commonly known as polar milling or polar indexing, can be used in situations where

The Nina Ricci brand known worldwide for its iconic dresses and luxurious range of ready-to-wear couture collections has been able to reduce time to market by 15 days by using Centric Software's PLM. Centric 8 PLM solution offered support for the entire product lifecycle reducing the time to reach market by 15 days and also eliminated the unproductive time spent searching for information in disconnected files. It also offered a faster and more accurate costing and pricing by decreasing the data errors by 20-30 per cent. This also resulted in lowering the data entry time by 10 days for each collection, Centric Software said in a media release. According to Emmanuel Debaene, the operation director of Nina Ricci, previously they treated every collection as completely new and had no ability to accurately cross-refer, compare and analyse information throughout styles and years. Reflecting the importance that the Nina Ricci brand places on materials, its

Signal Integrity Software Inc. (SiSoft) and MathWorks will present the technical paper, “Two for One: Leveraging SerDes Flows for AMI Model Development,” today at DesignCon 2016 in Santa Clara. This paper presents a process that lets SerDes designers directly leverage models created during the SerDes design process to create IBIS-AMI simulation models. AMI models can then be provided to customers much earlier in the SerDes lifecycle, allowing feedback on applicability for customer applications while there is still time to adapt the actual design.  “AMI model development typically occurs only after the SerDes design has been finalized,” noted Barry Katz, SiSoft’s President and CTO. “AMI models are also generally created by a different group, so some knowledge of the original design intent gets lost in translation. This flow lets SerDes engineering create AMI quickly and efficiently. Reusing SerDes design models for AMI development has been a longstanding, but previously unattainable goal for many
