Isuzu Motors, Japan’s well-known manufacturer of commercial vehicles, light commercial vehicles and diesel engines, signed ProSTEP iViP Association’s Code of PLM Openness (CPO). By this, Isuzu clearly takes position und underlines the already strong request for more Openness in PLM within Asia. “We welcome Isuzu’s step and we are sure, that beside companies like Toyota and Isuzu other big Japanese manufacturers will follow within the next month.”, stated Dr. Oliver Riedel, ProSTEP iViP’s Chairman of the Board. Far more than 70 companies from America, Asia and Europe already signed the CPO and benefit by its application. CPO defines a commonly agreed baseline of PLM Openness. IT Customers use it for streamlining purchasing processes and related discussions. IT Vendors take advantage of the CPO for illustrating how their products address the openness requirements. This includes integration possibilities for 3rd party solution providers, which was in the past more seen as “essential, but probably

Be Careful What You Wish For

During a briefing at a PLM solution provider last week, the Oslo project at Microsoft came up: http://blogs.office.com/2014/03/11/introducing-codename-oslo-and-the-office-graph/  and it made me think back to the 2012 CIMdata Market & Industry Forum where I said what we really needed to help us ration our limited attention was to have context built into what we do at the operating system level: We have too many screens and other things vying for our attention. Having the system watching what you are doing, and making the connections for you just made sense. Well for once Microsoft was listening. (And so, apparently, was Oleg listening to Microsoft because he was blogging about it just about during my meeting last week, apparently:  http://beyondplm.com/2014/06/18/oslo-office-graph-new-trajectories-in-discovery-and-search/) The YouTube video linked in the blog post shows some interesting approaches. Now, if they can extend this to other applications besides their own, we are in business. Now with Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn,

Active knowledge and data management is critical to the “first time capable designs”. In today’s global multi-location engineering environment, it is imperative that design and simulation processes are executed in a consistent and error free mode all the time. Automating simulation processes is a way to achieve increased productivity while driving standardization and enabling forward deployment. This presentation will review various approaches, efforts involved, and cost/benefit analysis of automating simulation processes used in designing a complex automotive driveline system. Simulation automation is an essential
